The First Potential One: They do not surprise the television or radio audiences at the beginning. Instead, they give them the obvious by immediately showing or discussing their products. If you do this, you are asking to be tuned out. You must begin your TV and radio spots with an unexpected approach that has the characters not cover the product until the middle of the spot.
The Second Potential One: They do not make themselves stand out. It is crucial to have a marketable difference and come up with a feature that makes your item unique. If you have a marketable difference, it is up to you to sell it.
The Third Potential One: Their message is not persuasive. It is your responsibility to use believable copy in your ads.
The Fourth Potential One: They do not air their spots at the right time. You have to appear on the air when your target market is most likely to watch television or listen to the radio.
The Fifth Potential One: They pick the wrong location. You have to pick the areas that have more of the people that make up your ideal audience when you run TV, radio, print and billboard ads.
The Sixth Potential One: They target the wrong people. Once you do a demographics study to learn things about the groups of people that are most likely to buy from you, you have to use language, graphics and images that are likely to connect with them.
The Seventh Potential One: Their billboard messages do not pass muster. You have to use ten or fewer words and make your text large and easy to read.
The Eighth Potential One: Their online ads turn some people off because they continually blink or they are too bright. Some people do not like flashing.
The Ninth Potential One: They use poor taste and offend their prospects. I often hear a radio commercial that features a company saying, "So easy it makes you wanna slap your mama."
