Advertising in Small Business

According to the A.C. Nielsen Company, by age 65 most Americans have seen over 2 million advertisements on the television alone. In a world where everything is for sale and so many businesses sell the same things, advertising is essential to most businesses success. There are three important tools for advertising that each successful business should incorporate in their publicity, these tools are: uniqueness, localization, and customer perception.

As mentioned earlier, many businesses are selling the exact same product. In order to engage customers and convince them to do business with you, you must first differentiate yourself from all of the other businesses that offer similar services or products as your business. Find what makes your company unique, whether it's efficiency, customer service, or presentation. Once you find your business identity and uniqueness, find a quick, short and memorable way to express it. Uniqueness is the foundation for your business' slogan.

Localization is important because it defines your business as trustworthy. It's about your customers being friends; after all, they will be the reason that your company survives and thrives. People want to support and do business with people and businesses that they feel they can trust. It's all about building a relationship with your customers.

It is extremely important to consider customer perception, but it is still often overlooked in advertising. Business owners must remember that their advertisements are not about them, but about what their businesses can do for everyone else. Focusing on what you can give opens you up to see your customers' perspective and helps you build a business and advertising plan that will be successful.

Remember that an advertisement is not about your business, but an extension of your business. Incorporating these three tools in developing an advertising plan or marketing campaign will put you at an advantage over your competitors.
