Advertising by Word of Mouth

Word of mouth travels at a much higher speed than the speed of light. Word of mouth is for both good and bad aspects. However bad things or aspects move at a much faster rate that that of the good.

If you are a businessman trying to promote something new, then word of mouth is the best means of advertising. It starts from your home. Tell your family members and friends about the new product you are planning to launch. Lets say, you tell about the features of your product to your brother at home, what he will do is discuss about it, to his friends and colleagues. And in turn his friends will tell their friends and the chain goes on.

Word of mouth is one means of advertising where you don't have to pay even a single pie. But, the latest news is that advertising companies are willing to pay money for advertising through word of mouth. No, I am not trying to confuse you, what I am trying to put across is, that you must have heard people telling you that if you refer your friends to their company or tell them to use their product they will give you some commission or a percentage of their profits. What do you think referring a friend is, nothing but word of mouth.

Word of mouth is very contagious, like the way it is used for good purposes, word of mouth can also affect many people's lives. There is no big difference between word of mouth and gossip. Sometimes what we tend to do is just talk about anything and everything that comes out of the mouth without even giving a thought, how our words can affect the other person.

Word of mouth is very powerful. It is like a sharp knife. Just as how a knife is used to create something and in the same way used to destroy another, word of mouth is also a knife. It can help somebody grow up in their lives and can also destroy another person's life.

So when we speak about something or somebody we should think twice. Just spitting the words out is not good. Even if we don't do something good to others let us not cause harm to them. If somebody talks ill of others just take in one ear and leave it out from the other. We should not repeat the same mistake. Let us be constructive rather that destructive.
