Advice for Family Camping Vacations

Year after year, families take regular summer vacations. Many will go to the beach, mountains, or a theme park, but what about a camping trip? If you and your family enjoy the outdoors, this could be a perfect adventure, especially if you plan ahead and map out your trip.

While camping is not as popular as it once was, many great campgrounds still exist across the Unitied States. Just because you choose camping for a vacation, you are not limiting yourself on the amount of interesting places you can visit.

Campgrounds sometimes offer activities for families to participate in. At some areas you can find swimming pools, tennis courts, and indoor game rooms. If the close quarters of a private campground is not your thing, you may want to check out a state park.

When choosing your destination, keep in mind the activities available for your family. Some outdoor activities that could be enjoyable for outings could include boating, biking, fishing, or hiking. Be sure to check the age appropriate activities that will be available to your family. No one wants a restless teenager who cannot find anything to do.

Not only is camping great for families, it is also ideal for couples. Whether you are a newlywed, or are in your golden years of marriage, camping provides something for all age groups. Imagine camping under the stars with your new spouse, and the romantic evenings that could make camping your "special thing".

Another nice thing about camping is the money you can save. Just think of all of the places you would enjoy visiting, now think of how much you would have to spend to stay in a hotel. With camping your site fee is considerably less than the cost of a hotel room.

Once you have decided upon camping as your vacation of choice, next decide if you will be using a tent or RV. If you have a camper make sure it is stocked with everything you may need for your trip. If using tents, and you have children, you may want one for you and your spouse and one for the kids. If you have teens, you may want to consider individual tents for each child.

If you are an avid camper, you probably already have plenty of gear for camping. If you are new to camping you may need to sit down and make a checklist of the things you will need for your trip.

No matter what your previous camping experience has been, you and your family will get to enjoy some time away together. While on vacation, try to set aside time for a nature walk with your loved ones. Take your camera to capture pictures of any wildlife that may come across your trail. No matter if you decide on camping or prefer the amenities of a hotel, be sure to have a safe fun-filled vacation!

The best summer vacation my grandparents ever took me on was a camping tour of Michigan. I am hoping that my husband and I can take a camping trip together this summer.
