Advice from My Mom

Down to Earth Real Life Advice

Katie Sharp-Dierks
My mother and I share a very special relationship. I know that I can tell her anything. Not only will she listen to me rant and rave about sometimes insignificant things, but she also gives great advice. If she doesn't know about something, she isn't afraid to admit it.

I've received so much good advice from my mom that it is hard to pinpoint a single event. She's helped me grow as a person, especially since I've reached adulthood. Even considering all the great advice I've received from her, I think I've learned more by following her example.

My mom has an enormous amount of patience. Anyone with seven kids would have to have plenty, but she goes above and beyond.

My mom is fair and just. When one of us kids has done something wrong, she metes out fair discipline, and manages to hide her smile at some of the ridiculous mishaps we stumble into.

My mom is a good listener. She really listens, and she doesn't judge people based on superficial things.

My mom stands up for what she believes in. She votes in every major election, and many of the minor ones.

These are just some of the reasons I love and respect my mother. I know that when I need her, she will be there for me. I hope that my children will someday think of me in the way that I think of my mother. When I need advice on being a good mother, all I have to do is look to her example.
