Advice for Parents of Children Who Are 4-5 Years Old

For every parent that has a child who is 4 or 5 years old knows that it's a challenge. My 4 year old son is such a good little boy I have to say. He is not into everything like he use to be. He is more into exploring how things work and why they are made. I have my hands full with my 2 year old than I do with him. Little girls and buys at this age are more into finding out how things work, exploring, and asking a lot of questions. My son asks me more questions now than he ever did before. This is a normal stage where they start to learn more about the world around them.

They start to use their imagination a lot more. Some children even have imaginary friends. The ones we can not see. I think its so funny when my son is talking to himself and I step in to ask him who is he talking to and he will say nobody. He doesn't do it too often but I see a lot of children this age doing it. Some other things children at this age might do is whine a lot because they are in need of attention or think they can have everything handed to them. It is our jobs as parents to take them away from the situation and talk to them about behaving properly in public.

They need to learn what timeout is if they don't. Another thing children this age might do is lie. To them it may not be a big one but to us it is. A little white lie can lead to a big lie. You need to teach your child that lies are not acceptable. I love my son dearly and tell him that I will love him no matter what he needs to tell me. He does not lie and we talk to each other all day long. It is great to bond with your child even if you only have an hour or 10 minutes. Most parents work all day and really do not have the time or choose not to make them time to sit down with their children. Children need love and want to bond with their parents. I am a stay at home mom of three so I make a lot of time for my children.

Children at this age are not into toys as much as they were at 2 or 3 years of age. The great toys and gadgets to get them now are

Scooters, roller skates
Good reading books
Pc software for learning
Learning talking books
Math cards
Nature kit for rocks, leaves

Some parents choose to get their children Play station or Xbox but some do not. I have Play station and only allow my son to play with it once a week. He is not into it too much. Most kids love this game system because they can play many different games with more and more challenges. There are tons of games you can buy. It can be addictive too so when you are making dinner and you call your child and they do not its because they can't get off. It is a bad habit for some kids to play this all day. Television is one thing if they are watching their favorite show. The show will end but this game system can be paused and played over and over. Some of them are ok for learning but most are violent. Make sure only yourself purchase these games to see if they are suitable for your child's age.

Children this age go through a lot of different phases from picky eating to whining to being a messy child. Some children do not like to help out with chores and their homework. If you are a parent that needs to be on top of your child to clean and do their homework than maybe its time they start earning an allowance. Kids love money and buying new items. They should work for it by doing chores around the house. They will love the rewards.
