Advice for People with Sensitive Skin

Sabrina Martin
Sensitive skin can be extremely unpleasant. The rashes, breakouts, drying and cracking, and uncomfortable itching and burning are enough to make you want to jump out of your skin. In addition to delicate skin, we expose ourselves daily to many products that are full of perfumes and chemicals that cause increased irritation.

Below are some relieving alternatives you'll want to consider if you suffer from the many side effects of sensitive skin.

All Natural and Botanical Soap Products

Most of us don't realize the unpleasant effects that soap has on our skin. There are many irritating compounds in soap that can cause extreme discomfort. I recently discovered that by switching to soap products that are made with natural ingredients, my skin looks better, feels better, and doesn't experience as many irritations. There are various all natural soap products available such as hand soap, bar soap, body wash, face wash, and shampoo & conditioner.

When I first decided that I wanted to use natural soap I thought that replacing the hand soap and body wash would be enough. Then I realized that even if the shampoo and conditioner I used didn't irritate my scalp, my hands were being exposed to it. I decided to switch these as well.

Another really important product to use if you have sensitive skin is an all natural fragrance free lotion. It is important to keep your hands and body moisturized. The best way to ensure that your hands don't become dry and cracked is to apply lotion after every hand wash.

Household Cleaning Products

Cleaning products are really harsh on our skin. Everyone should wear gloves when they clean. For an individual with skin issues this is especially important. When choosing gloves to wear avoid latex brand gloves; latex is incredibly agitating to the skin. The best option is to wear a pair of light cotton gloves underneath rubber gloves.

It is a good idea to use botanical cleaning supplies. These are widely available online, in Organic markets such as Whole Foods Market, and many department stores. To find all natural soap products and cleaning supplies you might consider visiting the following web sites:

www.indigowild.com, offers a wide variety of all natural bar soap, hand soap, lotions, and even laundry soap.

www.nontoxicsoap.com, provides botanical soaps as well as household cleaning supplies.

Cotton gloves are available online and in some Walgreens stores.

Other Helpful Tips and Advice

Apple Cider Vinegar is great for the skin. Try mixing 1 cup ACV with 3 cups cold water and soak hands or feet in the mixture for about five to ten minutes. You may also mix ½ cup ACV with 2 cups cold water in a spray bottle and spray skin after showering, let it sit for five minutes, then rinse.

Avoid washing the hands excessively, as this causes the skin to dry out. Do not apply perfume directly to the skin. If you experience itching, try using a little anti itch cream.

You may also apply lotion to hands and feet at night and wear cotton gloves and socks while you sleep. This helps to keep the hands and feet moisturized which will prevent drying and irritation.

By making some changes you can prevent and bring relief to the unpleasant effects caused by overly sensitive skin. If you decide to switch to all natural products make sure that you communicate to everyone in your household that the products are meant for your use only. This will save you a lot of money.

This advice is meant for individuals suffering from sensitive skin issues; if you suspect that the skin issues could be the result of a more serious condition you should consult your physician.
