Advice I Received from My Mother Regarding My Newborn

Kelly Fleming
My Mother is half German and half Russian so arguing or debating is not an option. When I was born my German great grandmother helped my Mother out for the first few weeks. By the time she left I was 3 weeks of age and eating rice cereal. I slept through the night without waking up at all.

With my children I am a little more modern. I actually listen to what the Pediatricians say as opposed to Family members. My Mom will always put in her 2 cents on everything, but I expect that I am going to do the same this to children.

When my second son was born she drove in from out of state for the delivery. She kept insisting over and over again to start him on rice at a couple weeks old. My Husband and I would turn her down. We waited till he was 8 weeks old to try the rice cereal. I know that when my Mom was here she would sneak some in his bottles she was very determined and watched him by herself every now and then.

From six weeks on she was always giving him a taste of everything. Some of it is alright but we make our mashed potatoes home-made so there are still going to be some clumps in the potatoes, he could choke!

She is still very determined to this day she was probably feeding my son steak at 4 months old. Either way I still love her and her old-fashioned ways.
