Advice on How to Save Money on Organic Foods

Eating organic foods is a healthy way to live, but sometimes the price just makes buying organic foods too expensive for the family on a budget. But as organic foods are becoming more and more popular every day, they are becoming cheaper as well. For those who want to live the healthy, organic lifestyle, but think they can't afford it, think again. You don't have to sacrifice your health or environmental concerns for the sake of frugality. You can have both. This article will show you several ways you can save on organic foods to fit any budget.

You might think that looking in health food stores, like Whole Foods, would be one of the more expensive ways of buying your organic foods. In general, you would be right.. However, these more expensive health food stores often have a rack or bin with discontinued foods, items with damaged packaging, or sale items that are going for a large discount.. To take advantage of this, you can check regularly for organic food bargains to save a lot of money.

Another way to save more money on organic foods is to buy in bulk. Most foods are cheaper when sold in bulk, and the same goes for organic staples as well, such as grains, nuts and flours. You can always repackage at home, as well as freezing, canning or drying you organic foods. Stay away from high priced pre-packaged meal sized or single serving items. Cook your food at home. Besides saving money, you will save on packaging as well, which is another benefit to the environment. Make your own homemade soups, breads, deserts and other foods.

You can also find savings on organic foods at warehouse stores. Check your local Costco, Winco, Sams Club or other warehouse store for organic meats, vegetables, fruits and packaged food. These stores, as well as regular grocery stores like Safeway and Albertsons, are now carrying a lot more organic choices, and the prices are going down all the time as organics become more popular. Look for coupons in your Sunday paper, as well as in magazines and other places where coupons are found for even more savings at grocery stores.

Also try your local farmers market for organic vegetables and fruits. Sometimes they are priced higher than even health food stores, but at some, usually smaller out of the way farmers markets, local organic foods can be found at a good price. There also might be organic U-Pick farms in your area, or small organic farms where you can directly buy meat, nuts, vegetables and fruits.

If you can't find local deals in your area on organic foods, you can always try growing the foods yourself. That way is the most frugal of all.
