There are plenty of ways to take care of bullies and those that have an affection for picking on you. First of all, you have to stand up for yourself. The only way to do this is to face your bully and take the fight head on.
First, if the bully is comparable to you in size and strength or there is a possibility of you fighting him off, consider doing so. To do this learn to fight. Fighting is not all about being the biggest and meanest guy around. It is also about being the smartest and the most skilled. Consider taking up martial arts.
There are many martial arts out there advertised that can and cannot help face bullies. Some are less effective like Aikido and Kung Fu while there are sport oriented arts which can be extremely effective.
One martial art to consider is brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ). BJJ has proved time and time again to be one of the most effective martial arts where a smaller and weaker man can overcome a stronger larger opponent. Bullies can change their mind in the first place before trying anything against a skilled grappler that is skilled in the fundamentals of BJJ. Although it takes years to master, two years of continuous training can develop enough skills to defeat even a much larger opponent on the ground.
Another great martial art to learn is of course boxing. Boxing is terrific and has proven itself in caged mixed martial arts tournaments all over the world. A well placed hook can knock down even the toughest guy on the street and will deter him in the future from making your life miserable. Of course it takes time and courage to learn the sport and win over your fears but once you do, you will always be happy you did it.
Joining a boxing or brazilian jiu jitsu club also has other benefits. You make friends over time and if there is a group of people picking on you, you should be aware that being part of this community will deter bullies. If you know how to fight, fewer people will want to fight you. They won't know what to expect from a training jiu jitsu fighter or boxer. In time they even may become afraid of you.
Lastly, join the gym. Do some weight lifting and become a real athlete even if you never thought you can be one. Be the best you can be and prove to yourself that anything is possible.
