The Aegean Mediterranean Grille is one of the newer restaurants in Knoxville. Dining there was a feast for the eyes and palate. It was severely damaged during spring storms and reopened in September 2011 and had only been reopen for a few months.

If you haven't been there yet it is easy to find. Look for it on Kingston Pike next to the Mercedes Place Shopping Center in Bearden Village or use this map link.

Friends and I decided to give the Aegean Mediterranean Grille after lunch on a weekday. It was such a good dining experience that we wondered why we waited so long to try it. We were there at around 3:00 p.m. And had the place nearly to ourselves. Our goal was to evaluate the food and service with an eye toward a possible event. The low crowd level allowed us to talk with the server and management and is exactly what we had hoped to achieve.

Tables were set with white linen tablecloths and stemware. The black cloth napins against the white tablecloths help to give the restaurant an elegant look. It would work well for a business power lunch, business casual or a date night. There is a bar area in addition to two distinct dining areas.

It is easy to be impressed with the menu. Selections on the lunch menu ranged from classic Greek entrees to sandwiches and salads and more modern selections. Falafel, avgolemono , spanakopita, sampler platter and other starters were among the listed appetizers.

Diners need to be aware that the sampler platter is huge. It contained a Greek salad, gigantic spanakopita, tyropita, sausages and chargrilled octopus. At $14.99 it was the most expensive item that we ordred. Our server pulled it from the dinner menu for us. Most of the lunch items were around $10 range.

We tried the Moussaka, Locanico platter, Kontosouvli, Soutzoukakia, Pastitsio. Each of these came with tasty and well presented side items. The bill for the five of us, including the $14.99 appetizer and tax, was $65.

Our service was as good as the food. The server was knowledgeable about the menu items and was able to answer all of our questions. Management was friendly and equally helpful. He took time to talk to us and understand what we might need for the party. Most importantly, he seemed to be willing to accommodate us.

The experience we had at the Aegean Mediterranean Grille was a refreshing change of pace when compared to some other restaurants. It's too early to know what the decision will be about the event One thing that I do know for certain is that we will be dining there again.
