Affects of Different Mothering Styles

As a mother I have to be the best parent I can be to my children. There are many various parenting techniques used by mothers of all ages and backgrounds. These parenting styles can have many pros and cons that can affect the children and the parent. Whichever parenting style you choose to use there are many factors you must take into consideration. You must be aware of the effects of your parenting and how to parent your children right. Below I have listed three different parenting styles and the pros and cons of these different styles. These are all my opinions as a mother so please do not take offence if you feel you fit into a certain category.

The first type of mother I want to talk about is The Authoritarian Mother. This type of mother always is telling their child what they should or should not be doing. They tend to always want to be in control of what their kids are doing and also try and manage their kid's lives. They also want to always know what their kids are up to and like to keep up with where there kids are and how well their doing. One reason this parenting style is good is because it enables the mother to make sure their children are staying out of trouble. This style also allows a mother to handle things the way she wants. A bad result from this parenting style is that the child has little freedom to choose what they want to do and is weighed down by the parents overlooking eye.

A second type of parenting style is what some would consider "The Friend". This type of mom would do there best to try and please their kids. They want their kids to like them and will do whatever they want for their kids just so their children will be happy with them. This type of mother tends to be to lenient allowing their children to do what they please. They tend to give their children a lot of freedoms. This is good because it allows the child to have choices to do what the want and to learn about life. One bad thing is that this type of mother tends to spoil their child and allow them too many freedoms.

The third and final type of parenting style I would like to mention is The Academic Mother. This mother always wants their children to do well in school. Everything is school focused for their children. They may have rewards or punishment depending on how well their children do in school. They want their children to completely focus on school and nothing else. This can be very good for a child because it prepares them for their future and life in general. This is also bad because it burdens the kid to do extremely well and doesn't allow the child to have any freedoms.

When parenting my children I like to focus on a combination of parenting styles. I want to be the main authority but I also want my children to like me and to do well in school. I feel that it is best when parenting my children to combine different variations of each parenting style and combine it into one. This type of parenting style by combined all three has been very useful to me and has worked well.
