Teachers give a lot and get little pay. However, these days we are all feeling that way. What money we do have is wrapped up in a very tight budget. With buying Christmas presents for our kids, family, and friends it may be hard to budget in a gift for your child's teacher. Your child's teacher deserves to have some kind of recognition this Christmas and finding an affordable gift for a teacher is possible. Some ideas for affordable gifts for teachers are below.

1. Any dollar store or retail chain will have a plethora of gift baskets or gift sets for $5. This might be something your child's teacher may like. Although cheap, these can be really nice gifts. Your child's teacher isn't expecting you to buy anything extravagant, but, may appreciate the thought.

2. It is always better if you let your child help you pick out something for the teacher. Your child will probably love the concept of picking out a gift all by himself. However, steer him clear of anything expensive! You don't want to be embarrassed when you child tells his teacher "I picked out something really pretty for you, but, mommy said there is no way she is spending that much money on a teacher!" Avoid those little moments by directing your child to the gift set aisle or letting him pick between 2 items you have selected that are within your budget.

3. Boxed chocolates, coffee gift sets, and cookies are usually a no-fail gift for a teacher as well. You can either buy sets like this or make something similar. You could buy a decorative jar and place all the dry ingredients for brownies, cookies, coffee blend, etc and tie a beautiful bow around the top of the jar. Printing out the instructions on a little note card and attaching it with a thin ribbon is also nice.

4. A gift card to a local restaurant may also be nice. A $10 gift card to Star Bucks would make most any teacher happy

5. And sometimes a simple Christmas card will suffice. You could also include a note in the card where you volunteer to help during the next class party or class project. Sometimes gifts that don't cost a penny are the best gifts for teachers. Your help during a class activity may be just what your child's teacher wanted this Christmas.
