Affordable Digital Camera with 12 Mega Pixel and Video Recorder Worth the Search!

MrTechnical Review of Cobra Digital 12 Mega Pixel Camera with Camcorder

Michael MrTechnical Hewitt
I have searched far and wide for a digital camera that will also record video with sound for downloading to Associated Content - Yahoo! I have been using pocket sized video recorders since about a month after they came on the market, and I find the portability of this sized device to be invaluable.

Recently I had the opportunity to work with Ashley G. who is on the Video team here at AC-Yahoo! and she was extremely helpful in resolving a video download issue I was having. As a result of our communications I learned a few tricks, and at the same time decided that my video and camera device needed an upgrade. Even though the DXG camera I use is only a year old, it is definitely going to make my efforts easier and hopefully the product I am offering will improve as a direct result of having better equipment.

After many weeks visiting local stores and scouring the Internet I have finally found the one that I want to upgrade to, and have just ordered one through a trusted E-Bay seller. I was holding off ordering until there were sufficient funds on my Pay Pal from all of my writing assignments!

The company name is "Cobra Digital," and they have a digital camera that fits all of my requirements at a very good price! I had been seeing them selling for $150 to $185 and was very surprised to see them new in the box on E-Bay for $69 to $99.

At this point the DXG - HD camera which I have been using is working just fine, but I feel that it is time to step up my game and start producing higher quality content. The eventual goal is to create some sort of short film which will showcase my creative talents in a way that text articles just cannot offer.

I need one that will download the videos and pictures I take directly to AC - Yahoo! Without saving the file in one format and then having to use software to convert it over to another. I have done a few videos using that process and it was very difficult to get anything above "decent quality" video out of the equipment that I had at the time.

The camera I am ordering is the Cobra Digital 1220-RED. The color choice is simply so that I can find the camera when I am in a hurry and there is a good shot that I need to take advantage of. This camera has a lot of features that will help me improve my content here on AC - Yahoo!

The specifications on the Cobra Digital 1220 are fairly impressive for a digital camera with video that is selling for well under a hundred dollars!

The maximum resolution is 12 Mega Pixel, but to conserve on file size you can set it down to 8, 5, 3, 1.3, Also can save in VGA or QVGA which is one quarter the size of VGA at 320 x 240 pixels. VGA is the standard size of your typical computer screen, and ΒΌ or QVGA works well on PDA's and Cell Phones.

This camera can zoom to 8X, and has 16MB on board memory which allows it to hold up to 130 pictures internally. It handles Micro SD cards up to 8MB. The display is 2.4" which is bigger than most other cameras in this price range as they are usually around 2"

You can order this camera in Red, Blue, or Black. It is very thin and light, and with the rechargeable Li-Ion battery you can take a lot of video before you have to recharge! Auto Exposure settings are easy to use, and the White balance has an Auto setting, Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, and Fluorescent.

Video can be shown directly on your television screen in NTSC or PAL output. in a very generic comparison these two standards are the basis for how video is sent to your television. In North and South America we have the NTSC system which uses 30 frames per second and each frame is made up of 525 scan lines, and the PAL system that is used overseas has 25 frames per second and each frame is 625 scan lines.

There is software that comes with the camera for use on your computer, and a cable to connect using a Mini USB interface connection at the camera end and standard USB connector at the computer.

Most importantly this camera saves video with audio in the .AVI format which happens to be one of the video formats that AC-Yahoo! Accepts! Also the pictures are saved into standard JPEG format that almost everyone can use on almost every computer and hand held communication devices.

Overall I am very impressed with this camera and will include added content with more in-depth information on it's performance as I become more familiar with the features that it has to offer.
