Affordable DIY Wedding Favors: Ideas for Low Cost Wedding Favors

Valorie
A wedding should be a fun and enjoyable event. They should be remembered for the family, and the fun, and not the financial strain. It is possible to organize a beautiful, memorable wedding on a budget.

Wedding favors may seem like small expenses, but they can add up. With a little time and creativity, you can make your own beautiful wedding favors that your friends and family will remember.

You'll need to find out in advance if there are any things that are not allowed at your reception venue. Most places will not allow you to throw rice because it is believed that rice will kill birds, but some places won't allow you to bring in bird seed or bubbles. It's best to know in advance!

Turn making your favors into a fun event by inviting your bridesmaids over to help, or sit down with your fiancé, your mother, or close friends for an evening of creating.

Here are two different ideas for affordable, beautiful wedding favors to get your creativity flowing

Champagne Candy Glasses

What you'll need:

Two bags of 50 count plastic champagne glasses (we used the wide mouth glasses, not flutes) I found them at Garden Ridge for $6 a bag

12 yards of tulle. I bought this at Hobby Lobby for $.99 a yard. If you print a 40% off coupon from the web, you can use it on fabric.

Five rolls of ribbon. I bought this at Hobby Lobby half off for $1 a roll.

Three large bags of individually wrapped truffles, found at Sam's for $9 a bag. There were about 110 truffles in each bag.

I would suggest using a hot glue gun to attach the bases to the champagne glasses. Cut the tulle into squares of about 1 ft. I didn't worry about measuring too exactly. Cut the ribbon into 6 inch lengths. Drop three truffles in each glass, cover it with a tulle square, and tie the ribbon around the base.

Makes 100 favors at a total of $56, or only $.56 each

Wildflower Seed Pots

Tiny terracotta planters - check out your local craft shop or home improvement store, they're about $.30 each. I bought 100

Four yards of tulle at $.99 each from Hobby Lobby

Five rolls of ribbon, found them half price for $1 a roll

Large bag of wildflower seeds, I found a pound of them online for about $40

Take your tulle and cut it into 6 inch squares (once again, I didn't measure too carefully). Cut your ribbon down into 6 inch lengths. Put a small handful of seeds in the middle of a tulle square, bring the corners of the tulle together and tie the ribbon around the middle. Put your new little sachet in the little pot. These would be great for a spring time wedding. You can even attach a little card encouraging your guests to spread them in their yard.

Makes 100 favors at a total of $79, or only $.79 each

According to Snopes.com, throwing rice at a wedding does not actually harm birds. Many venues will still not allow it to be used, so be sure to check first!

Another possibility, though not as inexpensive as yours (~$5 per person), is to contact your favorite local winery and see if they have small bottles (say 6 oz) of your favorite wine. Many wineries will also enable you to personalize the label on those bottles so you can put a personal message on each bottle thanking your guests for celebrating your wedding with you. For those guests who don't drink wine (under-age, or just don't drink alcohol), you could get m&m's in similar size bottles.
