Are you looking for fun and affordable family-friendly activities and events this summer? This summer the Atlanta area has many affordable events that the whole family will enjoy. If you live in the Atlanta area or you are planning to visit over the next few months, these ideas for a great summer will not disappoint.

Screen on the Green

Screen on the Green takes place in Piedmont Park and shows movies completely FREE of charge every Thursday night from May 31- June 28. The movies showing this summer are:

May 31- Casablanca

June 7- Car Wash

June 14- Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

June 21- Funny Girl

June 28- E.T.

Bonus: There is live music before the movie starts.

Decatur Beach Party

The city of Decatur trucks in tons of sand and turns one of its streets into a beach. There is live music and the admission is $5 in advance and $10 at the gate. It begins at 5pm on June 15.

Coca Cola Summer Film Festival at the Fox Theatre

This is a way to see many movies at the beautiful Fox Theatre. The festival runs from June 3 until August 27. The movies they are showing through July 30 are:

June 3- The Sound of Music

June 4- A double feature, Casino Royale and Goldfinger

June 10- An Affair to Remember

June 10- 300

June 11- Pan's Labyrinth

June 18- Saturday Night Fever

July 8- Meet the Robinsons

July 9- The Wizard of Oz

July 11- Dreamgirls

July 30- A double feature, The Departed and Goodfellas

You can buy a package to see all 12 movies for $60, or buy individual tickets for $7.

The Fox Theatre also offers tours on weekday mornings for $5-10.

Sun Valley Beach

A swimming pool of 1.5 acres in Powder Springs, GA. They also have beaches and water slides. The admission is $14- $16

The New World of Coca-Cola

They have just re-opened the Coca-Cola museum and is being reviewed as better than ever. It is open daily; admission is $5-9.

Fernbank Science Center

There are tons of things for kids to enjoy at the Fernbank Science Center. The Planetarium shows are only $3-4 and you can see exhibits and gardens free of cost.

CNN Tour

You get a guided tour of CNN to get a great behind the scenes look at how CNN works. Admission is $9-12 and they are open daily.

Atlanta Braves Museum and Hall of Fame

Admission is $5-10 and is open daily from 10 am- 2 pm.

Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum

The admission is $7 and they are open daily.

Bonus: They are located right next door to Zoo Atlanta, so you can take in two attractions in the same day easily.

Dahlonega Gold Museum

The Dahlonega Gold Museum is a great time for the kids, but it is north of the city. SO if you live south of the city, plan for a day trip.

Star 94's Movies Under the Stars

Star 94 is sponsoring outdoor screenings of movies in different locations throughout the summer. Find the movies and locations details weekly on their website. www.star94.com

Stone Mountain Park and Laser Show

Stone Mountain Park is the Atlanta summer staple. The park has activities for everyone throughout the entire day. Climb the mountain, ride on the boats, take a sky lift up to the top of the mountain, picnic, or camp. Just make sure that when the sun goes down you have your blanket laid out on the grass to watch a laser show shown on the side of the mountain. General admission to the park is $8.
