I never expected sticker shock from an ice cream cone, but that is exactly what I felt when I realized ice cream cost about $4 per person at a trendy ice cream shop. Taking the family out for a cold treat should not cost a small fortune or involve a lengthy commute. Looking beyond the cachet of trendy ice cream shops, I chose Cheddar's, Tiff's Treats and Braum's as the best ice cream spots in Dallas.
With affordable prices and multiple locations, brain freeze and sticky hands replace sticker shock at these family-friendly destinations.

Cheddar's
Multiple Locations
This casual restaurant has locations throughout the metroplex and serves an impressive sundae called the Legendary Monster Cookie. They bake a fresh chocolate chip cookie in a small skillet and top it with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, chopped nuts and a cherry.
The Legendary Monster Cookie costs approximately $4 and easily serves two to three people. Because they serve it warm and the skillet is hot, you may want to request extra serving dishes for the kids.

Tiff's Treats
1001 Ross Avenue
Dallas, Texas
(214) 720-0500
Known for baking cookies from scratch and offering warm cookie delivery service, this cookie shop also makes a fresh ice cream sandwich using Blue Bell vanilla ice cream. At $1.99, it is a fun treat for kids and adults.
Tiff's has another location at 4980 Belt Line Road in Addison. The newest location at 8611 Hillcrest Road in Dallas is celebrating its grand opening on May 14 with a fundraiser to help a Make-A-Wish child and his family visit Alaska.
Favorite Pit Stop
Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Stores
Multiple Locations
With plenty of neighborhood locations, Braum's is a convenient pit stop. The three-in-one restaurant features food, ice cream and groceries. The dessert menu includes ample options with classic flavors such as vanilla and novel flavors such as birthday cake. Braum's also offers mix-ins and frozen yogurt.
The prices are reasonable with single-scoop cups for approximately $1.50, single-scoop sundaes for less than $2 and fancier sundaes, including banana splits, in the $3 price range.
Bonus: The Braum's market area is affordable enough to buy a few basics without making a trip to another store. The selection of groceries includes fresh produce, frozen foods, milk, bread, meat, eggs, soda and more. I recently priced a gallon of milk at $2.89. Overall, the prices are competitive with other grocery stores in Dallas.
