Affordable Gift Bag Idea for a Nursing Home Resident

Bernadette
Are you planning to visit someone who lives in a nursing home? Would you like to bring them a gift? If you would like to put together an inexpensive mini gift bag for a nursing home resident, hopefully this article will give you some gift ideas.

My sister lives in a nursing home and has cerebral palsy. She uses a wheelchair to get around. She cannot walk, but she is able to use her arms and hands. If you would like to read my article about gifts for someone using a wheelchair, click here.

Most people like to receive gifts. An inexpensive mini gift bag would most likely bring a smile to the face of the gift recipient. We see the smile on my sister's face when she receives a gift from us and also the joy she has when she shows us a gift that someone else has given her. Since my sister likes getting gifts, when we made her a gift basket we included some of the gifts mentioned below.

Notepad
This is a nice item to include in your mini gift bag if the gift recipient likes to write. This gift is one that my sister really likes. She enjoys writing and always puts a mini notepad into her purse, so that she can write down notes, etc. There are so many nice mini notepads with colors and styles appropriate for both women and men.

Pen
Once again, if the gift recipient likes to write, a pen is a nice item to include in your gift bag. No matter how many pens a person has they can always use another one. We found a set of two pens in purple, my sister's favorite color. Not only were the pens purple, they even had purple ink. She really liked finding these pens in her gift basket.

Disposable Camera
If the gift recipient participates in various nursing home activities, such as parties or day trips, a disposable camera is a great way to capture the fun on film. Disposable cameras are relatively easy to use and for the most part they are inexpensive.

Daily or Weekly Planner
Either of these planners is a nice gift idea. A planner lets the gift recipient keep track of the activities scheduled in the nursing home and perhaps outside the nursing home. My sister enjoys using her planner to keep track of trips, doctor appointments, etc.

Phone Calling Card
If the gift recipient has family or friends who require a long distance phone call, a phone calling card is a thoughtful gift. The gift recipient can talk with them for a bit longer and not worry about the phone bill.

Gift Certificate
Sometimes nursing homes provide shopping trips for the residents. If the gift recipient participates in these shopping trips, a gift certificate for one of the stores where they shop is a good idea.

Once you have purchased all the gifts for the mini gift bag, it is up to you, whether or not to individually wrap each gift before placing it into the mini gift bag. Hope that the gift recipient enjoys receiving the mini gift bag you created for them.
