Affordable Household Tips to Simplify Stress

Lisa K
This took me a while to try and see for myself.

After a friend of mine had approached me with some of her collection magazines of "Reader's Digest" and "Prevention", I was too intrigued after reading the articles to NOT try this. In these editorials, they give incredible tips and suggestions for the from heath to household. Ranging from cheap and helpful home remedies, to eliminating other household dilemmas such as pests and appliances. I wouldn't have kept an open mind on any of these, had it not been for the same friend who informed me about using Vick's Vapor rub on the soles of their feet to prevent the annoying, consistent cough. I'm still bewildered on how effective that was. Wait until you read about this!

For some, they already had previous knowledge, while others are hearing it for the first time. Have you ever noticed how leftover pizza doesn't taste quite the same as when first made, or delivered? The microwave does no justice for a great tasting, pre-cooked pizza. Any leftover pizza should be heated up in a nonstick skillet on the stove top on medium low heat until the pizza is completely heated. By doing this, the crust stays crispy, thus, no soggy, mushy pizza. I've tried this on both a 'Totinos' pizza, as well as a pizza delivered from Papa John's, not only was I amazed, but my entire family were satisfied with a meal that tastes like it was just made and served!

Removal of the sticky substances in measuring cups; for some, it's no big deal, while others are ready to discard the kitchen tool without a second thought. Before you do, try this out: before filling the cup with whatever sticky ingredient in the beaker, fill it with hot water and then dump it out. Do NOT dry the cup! Now you're ready for whichever ingredient to be put in, and see how easily it comes out.

Many women rely and depend on shaving cream for their legs. A cheaper solution: conditioner. It' s remarkable how the hair product you depend on for the shimmering healthy shine for you hair, can work wonders and leave your legs baby soft smooth.

It's that time of year again. Do you hate how the windshield of your car fogs up, despite your car's defrost? The Reader's Digest suggests how people should purchase a chalkboard's eraser, and store it inside your vehicle, such as inside the glove box. The next time your windshield begins to fog, wipe it right off with your eraser, and see how it works better than a cloth.

Fruit Flies Be Gone! At one point, my friend, Sara, had a problem with pesky fruit flies in her home. Despite all of the bug killers she said she had used, they would never be completely gone. So with the help of a tip from 'Reader's Digest', Sara took a glass and filled it with a half inch of apple cider vinegar, as well as a couple of drops of dishwasher soap. (This also helps with annoying mosquito's that were accidentally trapped inside the home) Mix well, and you'll see how the bugs are drawn to the liquid will no longer be an annoyance.

As a mother, I would prefer to avoid any harsh chemicals in or around the home when trying to eliminate other bugs, such as ants. I want to keep these insects away from my children, my pets, and my home without causing any harm to ourselves. Although this is not one of the quick fixes, it definitely takes care of the job. By putting tiny pieces of cornmeal where you see the ants, they will take it back to their home(s) and attempt to eat it. Because they cannot digest it, it eventually kills them, and rids them from your home.

What about bad breath? According to Prevention magazine, nutrition director, Cynthia Sass details how a quarter of a cup of Aloe Vera liquid mixed with water, or even 100% apple juice can reduce acid indigestion, which is believed to be the cause of most cases of bad breath. Just be sure not to go overboard with the amount of ingredients when mixing. Or another way is to chew on a fresh mint sprig or parsley, this could last up to 24 hours!

Tension headaches can be treated with every day home products, as well. One way to relieve this pain is to dab a small portion of Peppermint Oil and rub it on your neck as well as the muscles that connect the neck and shoulders.. This helps relax the muscles and relieve the headache within a small amount of time.
No one likes flakes in their hair. There are many dandruff shampoos that one can purchase at local stores, some reasonably prices, others expensive. But if you're looking for a cost effective solution, try some green tea. When taking two bags of tea, chilling in your refrigerator overnight, use this the next morning in the shower and massage it onto your scalp. When doing this on a regular basis, helps reduce the amount of cells that are known to cause dandruff.

Other great and common household products are ginger and honey. These items have been well known for some time as successful anti-bacterial, as well as anti-inflammatory properties.

Many people love the soothing and relaxing Chamomile tea. It's no wonder why physicians, as well as Prevention Magazine entails how a strong, freshly brewed cup of chamomile tea can help with diarrhea. This helps prevent muscle contractions that cause this ailment.

Constipation can definitely ruin ones day. But if you were to imbibe a half teaspoon of olive oil, this helps almost 'flushes out' of your system. This can be done easily with children, as well as adults.

An embarrassing thing that many people have to deal with are warts. It's costly to buy products that are to remove these annoyances, but before you do next time, keep this in mind. Try using Duct Tape. Yes, the old fashioned duct tape can be used for this, but don't think of using it like wax. What you should do the next time you see a wart pop up on either your hands or feet, is wash and dry the effected area and place small pieces of this tape and leave it for about three to five days. (Throughout this time, you may replace the pieces of tape, it doesn't need to be the exact same piece you put in the beginning) Don't tear it off like a wax job, the adhesive in the regular, standard duct tape actually helps kill the wart(s) in a safe method with no side effects.

This one I had to publish: I didn't get this one from a magazine, but from another friend who recently had a technician that she had called when the heating unit went out on her dryer to repair. She explained to me how imperative it was to clean off the lint off of the lint filter every load. (Which I do) She told me how the repairman grabbed the filter and showed her how running hot water on the mesh part of the filter surprisingly did not run through on the other side and only sat on the filter! How could that be?

He told my friend, Darlene, that dryer sheets can cause an invisible film over the mesh, and that that's what actually burns out the heating unit on the dryer.

He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free - that nice fragrance too, you know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box, well this stuff builds up o n your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to catch fire &potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out &wash it with hot soapy water &an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long! How about that!?! Learn something new everyday!
