These days, everyone is looking for ways to stretch the rapidly thinning and not-so-elastic dollar, and the first area to see the chain saw is usually pampering. For many women, this may mean finding creative ways to get the same results while hoping to look just as fabulous. The old adage of "you get what you pay for" is often true, but sometimes it means we just have to dig deep to find what's worth paying for and what's worth doing ourselves.

Any woman who has been spoiled by amazing professional salons to keep their hair remarkable can understand the reluctance of going cold-turkey. Who hasn't had a memorable dye-in-a box experience which inevitably resulted in a stained shirt, stained towel, stained hands and arms, and maybe even stained flooring, all of which was the carnage of dying your roots a different shade than your ends. Fortunately, there is a wonderfully affordable alternative in the Denver area, and that is the Antoine du Chez Academy.

You may have heard of the Antoine du Chez salons and know that their reputation is one of high end style and equally high end prices. At their academy, you are getting the highly skilled professionalism with the fresh face price. While some may still be wary of students cutting their hair, the skills that these students have far exceed the usually limited skills of a typical low end hair dresser. Instructors also take an active role in consultations and recommendations.

At the Academy, the curriculum teaches students the internationally acclaimed Toni & Guy method, which is comprised of at least twenty-one different hair cutting techniques. There are only eight basic hair cuts, which mean that these up-and-coming stylists are learning the hottest and latest hair cutting trends in addition to the good old standbys. In contrast, the traditional method taught through most beauty schools often only teaches four different ways to cut hair! According to Amy Constable, a current student at the Academy, she "...chose this school because the name is respected by other salons. Because of the advanced training you get, higher end salons are more willing to hire you." That means that you could be paying $80 for the very same service at a prestigious salon, when you can sneak in a few months earlier to have that same stylist do an equally excellent job for only $30.

One of my favorite ways to save when I visit is by taking advantage of the pre-booking discount. If on the same day that you get pampered at the salon you book your next appointment in advance, you will receive 25% off that next service! Best of all, this isn't just a one time deal, but something you can take advantage of every time you visit. Be sure to have your schedule with you though, because if you have to change the appointment, you'll lose out on that additional savings.

The prices do vary and depend on the experience of the student. A hair cut will start at $14 and a hair color or perm could run as little as $30. Of course they also offer a large range of facials in the $30 dollar range and many other fantastic services. They are located at 870 S. Colorado Blvd. #B, but be warned, the entrance is a bit obscure with the door being between the Whole Foods and Staples. Give them a call at 303-733-9798 or see their website at http://www.antoineduchezacademy.com/ .
