The Manor, as residents call it, is located off of Hwy 290 at Eldridge Pkway on the northwest side of town. With one of the most beautiful outdoor areas in Houston and a gorgeous pool, this is a great bargain for your money. They have a communicty room with a piano, social services on the premesis, a DVD theater with stadium seating and private flower and vegetable gardens. The interior apartments have granite countertops and state-of-the-art appliances, including microwave ovens. One bedroom homes start at $646 and two-bedroom homes start at $775.

3. Pepper Tree Manor
Located on Antoinne Dr. between West Little York and Tidwell is the Pepper Tree Manor senior housing complex. This is one of the more unique senior apartments in Houston, with mid-rise and cottage homes and a buffet room with adjacent kitchen. Pepper Tree also sports a lap pool with jacuzzi, a complete fitness center and library, a community room with shuffle board and darts, and custom cabinets in every apartment. One-bedroom homes start at $493 and two-bedroom homes start at $617.

4. Primrose at Heritage Park
Located inside the Belt near Sam Houston Race Park, Heritage Park is a great place to live if you enjoy playing the ponies every once in a while. They have handicap accessible homes, exterior storage, vertical blinds, ceramic tile floors and ice makers. The Primrose at Heritage Park senior homes have been professionally designed and are cable- and internet-ready. Managed by Southwest Housing, Heritage is one of the top senior housing communities in the city.

5. Oak Haven
Houston is certainly known for its oak trees, and Oak Haven is a great place to call home. Located near the Woodlands in Shenandoh, Oak Haven has community gardens, attached garages, no steps or stairs, washer/dryer connections, and gated entry. This is one of the more expensive homes, starting at $795 for a one-bedroom home, but safety, security, and beautiful apartments are well worth the price.
