An affordable summer vacation for one college student would be a stretch-dream for another, and pocket change for yet another college student. The student's family's wealth, as well as the student's grades will have an effect on whether or not a summer vacation is possible, like taking a Euro-train pass and touring Europe. Italy and Greece beckon the young and young at heart, and for students in college, joining a group that travels to poorer countries to help build homes, schools and infrastructure like drinking water wells, irrigation and sanitation systems is a double-edged vacation.
There are many charitable organizations, like World Changers, that travel, through their own expense, to third-World areas as well as towns affected by major job closures. These college and high school students make changes and reparations that give the people who live there hope and a better, safer life. Life-long friendships and excellent resume fodder are what the college students take from their Summer vacation's volunteer work, and it can be personal, or it can be for mandatory volunteering hours for their college course's requirements. The lives of many people living in sub-standard and vile living conditions are improved substantially as the result of this type of affordable summer vacation for college students.
From Africa to Brazil, and from Haiti to Chile, the Summer of 2010 may just be about college students spending their Summer holidays helping those people affected the worst by current, and freakishly common natural disasters. With hundreds of thousands of people thrown from their humble homes into makeshift tent camps, sanitation, drinking water and food needs to be provided and supplied. Clean up crews will be welcome everywhere they are needed, and many a home needs to be built. What a better way to spend a summer vacation than to improve the lives of people who had their families and lives devastated and destroyed by natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis?
However, if volunteer work is not a requirement, or if the required hours have already been accumulated, the road trip is one of the more sought-after and affordable summer vacations for college students. To get together with your college buddies, and to head off on an adventure with only one goal; to enjoy themselves and to do it on the cheap, is a decades-old tradition and lives on today.
Camping in remote areas where it may not be legally allowed, but in locations so remote that being caught is a rare occurrence, the sounds of silence that the isolation provides gives the students a chance to unwind from their hectic, everyday lives. Bonfires under the carpet of stars that is only visible far from any civilized areas is a sight and adventure that will strengthen the bonds amongst college buddies.
Camping in cheap, mom and pop campgrounds along the way, with one final destination in mind, many college students take the long way to wherever they have to go, and bring their pals along for the ride. This turns a required trip into an adventure, and brings the college friends closer together, tightening the bonds that will most likely last the rest of their lives.
Affordable summer vacations for college students may depend upon their obligations to work or family, but no matter the destination, the friends, the trip and the adventure is what affordable Summer vacations for college students is all about.
After all, it may just be the last Summer vacation before work and family obligations rear their heads and take over the college student's lives.
