Affordable Wine Tasting in Duluth, Georgia

Wednesday's at Park Cafe in Downtown Duluth

There are many people that travel hundreds or even thousands of miles to find a great vineyard. However, in these financially challenging times, very few people have the time or resources to adventure out too far from home. However, there is great news for Georgians! I have discovered a local gem right in the heart of the City that specializes in affordable and unique wines.

The Park Café is located at 3579 West Lawrenceville Street in Duluth, Georgia. This Café is very unique as it's located on the ground floor of a quaint house that was converted into a restaurant with local businesses housed on both the main and top floors. The Park Café has wonder food, but on Wednesday's they offer their famous wine tasting. The tasting is not set up like a traditional tastings where you and a wine master sit in front of bottles of wine, but it's actually served at your table.

Park Cafe's Wednesday Wine Tasting alone is $10.00 per person with the purchase of an entrée and $15.00 per person for just the wine only. Along with your wine, you'll also get a little background on what kind of wine you're about to taste and what inspired the flavor. I recently enjoyed the Wednesday Wine Tasting at Park Café and was introduced to 4 specific wines: The first was a pale yellow wine with a touch of gold bouquet called Laboure-Roi Chardonnay. The taste was soft with fruit flavors, but had a firm finish. This wine is good served with fish, pasta and creamy cheeses.

Next up, I was served the 2008 King Estate Acrobat Pinot Gris. This wine had a floral component, followed with a hint of lime, pineapple and Asian pear. The Acrobat is light bodied, citrusy with just a hint of acidity. Once the white wine tasting was complete, it was time for the reds and first on the menu was the Beaujolais which is a young red with a blend of red berry fruits and tastes a little jammy fruit with a hint of acidity. I understand this wine should be served cool around 50-55 Fahrenheit.

The final round in my Wednesday Wine tasting at Park Café was the delightful fruits of Sonoma County's vineyards. This wine offers many layers, featuring aromas and flavors of red cherry, blackberry and fresh sage with an underlying dry creek dustiness. The subtle herbal notes are complemented by layers of chocolate and vanilla. It was a great wine to complete the tasting.

Bottom-line: Great affordable wine: Price point: $6.00-$15.00 a glass or enjoy 4 different wines for $10.00
