Affording a Vacation Trip to Vail, Colo.

Winter Ski Getaways

Jenia Silver
As the season of winter is in its full cycle, ski season is here. Wouldn't it be nice to go to a winter wonderland filled with slopes of white? The small town of Vail, Colorado, is an excellent place to take a vacation in a world-class resort. In the 2006-2007 reader poll for Ski Magazine, Vail resorts ranked number one. Making plans to take this and similar trips can be cost friendly when reserving in advance airfare and hotel accommodations. A few areas to consider in the planning is the arriving/departing, staying, lift tickets, rentals, and possibly lessons on the slopes.

While Vail has an outstanding reputation of having the second largest slopes in North America, it has only been operating since 1962. Over 33 lifts and 193 trails are open around the town's 4.5 square mile perimeter. It is now the best time to visit one of five destinations located in the town of Vail. Including: Lionshead, East Vail, Vail Village, Golden Peak, and West Vail. Over the next three months temperatures will generally not top outside of freezing range.

Flying into Vail, Co and the bargains out there

When arriving into Vail, Co there is only one main docking port, that is Eagle County Airport. Over 13 cities in the United States can fly on direct route into Vail. Saving a fair amount of spending dollars is possible if at least 4 people are flying and booking a lodge or condominium together. So is the deal per the ski central.com website. While average cost of the 5 night resort stay with everything is $1400 per person, it is reserved on the basis that at least 4 adults schedule to fly from the same location. On other sites I have researched, cost for two to fly one way begins at lowest $900 and up to $1400. Booking a package has more appeal as the most efficient means to save some green.

Most of the town is car free, however rental cars are still available. The common method of transportation around the city is the free shuttle. These services can get you from the arrival point to the base of the slopes within 30 minuets at your hotel.

Lodging and Hotel Accommodations

Some of the most beautiful European style castle type of hotels are centered here in Vail, in the White River National Forest. Huge villas full of luxurious benefits await in the hillside. Most common resorts offer heated pools and hot tubs to release tension after a long day of exhausting the body from skiing. At Vail Square, Arabelle resort opened in January of 2008. Booking a room here can cost as low as $200 per a single studio for one night, and up to $1800 a night for a full penthouse.

Lessons, Lifts, and Rentals as Separates

If you have never been on skies before, do not fear the idea of this new adventure. Lessons are a reasonable part of the journey. Either taken in private or in small parties of 6, the entire cost of a three day beginners lessons, including lift and equipment, starts around $400. That is a great price considering that just to get lift tickets for 3 day for an adult costs around $250. Be forewarned that prices change on a daily basis, but are likely to stay within this range. Additionally individual costs for renting skis on Lionshead mountain slopes begins at $60 per day.

Getting away for that special ski vacation is a great idea. However, be sure to save time and money and do some comparison shopping on line before any destination plans are final.
