Affording a Wedding on a Budget

Faith Dosier
Marriage is a huge step but paying for the wedding is an even huger step. In order to begin planning your wedding the first thing you need to do is to figure out how you are going to pay for everything. Next you need to find out how much your ideal wedding will cost and compare it to what you can actually afford. After you've done all that then you're ready to move on to planning your wedding.

What's most important?

What is the essential thing that you must have at your wedding? Is it doves flying in the air, an ice sculpture, or flowers? The most important item for you will probably be the thing you spend the most of your wedding budget on. Once you figure out where the bulk of your budget is going then you can focus on what areas you can do yourself and what must be done by outside help.

What areas are easiest to cut cost in?

Some things can be done yourself of with the help of your troupe of bridesmaids. Invitations are a great area to cut cost and handmade invitations are very upscale and a fun group activity to do with your bridesmaids. Where will you have you wedding is also an area where you can either save a lot or spend a little. How about trying a destination wedding at a resort in Jamaica where everything is all inclusive. Or rather than getting married in a church, a reception hall or renting a huge facility, why not get married on the beach at sunset? Or how about in the mountains among the beautiful backdrop of nature. Lastly anything you can do yourself make sure you do it yourself. Buy weddings flowers wholesale in your local flower district, buy food in bulk and serve it buffet style and get your fabric for draping the aisles, chairs and location wholesale too.
