"African Man"

~You Dead Wrong~

Stephanie R. Barry
It is so many American women who get caught up in the cycle of marrying an African man because they hold the belief that the African man holds women to a much higher standard. I have heard so many stories to where the American women & some men have been fed a bunch of crap by an African who just wants their citizenship. The worst kind is that one that promise you he will love & take care of you if you pay for his papers, become his wife, promising a "Happily Ever After" while all he is truly waiting for is to get through the interviews, get his green card, and get his life on track. Leaving you in love & confused. Their have been some instances to where some American men or women are forced to live in a sexless, emotionless marriage while the African man or woman wait for their chance at permanent residency; now that is crazy!!!!!

Here is a poem I wrote based on those stories:

You came into my life,
Rushed me into becoming your wife.
All for the purpose of making your dreams come true,
Getting your legal status was the purpose for you.

You lived on me,
I put a roof over your head,
let you sleep in my bed,
bought you food and fed.
Gave you my good loving,
and kept it hot like an oven.

So much for all that,
You claim to go to New York,
to make your money for your papers,
but when I got a money blessing
you came back, claiming it was(God's revelation).

I continued to play the fool
God gets the glory in the end
He will handle you,
Mr. Guinea, my African Man.

You played me like a sucker,
and I let you play your game.
I paid a fourteen fifty-five for your papers,
I feel so ashamed

I was going off your promise,
You would pay me back in the end.
You said I would never have to work,
If I paved your way, my husband.

You cheated me.
