African-American Baby Names for 2009

2009 is a time for change. As Barack Obama shows a symbol of change! Baby names are also changing, and need to be updated. There are plenty of ways to show that your child is special. Giving a name to your un-born child is a special time in a mother's life. Choose wisely for you beautiful baby because he is coming into a world that is ready for change. As a mother you have the opportunity to pick a great name for your baby. I have researched online at Parents.com, and I have found a few baby names that you might like! Welcome your baby into the world with a beautiful name.

Amare (Amari) is a great name for a boy or a girl. Its meaning is "Having great strength." I think that this name is great. Its soothing, and the meaning shows that your baby will have great assertiveness. Alternatives for this name could be Amare, and Amary.

Ashantee (Ashauntie) is beautiful. The name means "Thank you." The name was popular in 2002 when Ashanti and aspiring singer rose to stratum. The name is classy, and sounds elegant. It's the sure name of a child that will be successful.

Kenya (Kennyah) it was originally a girl's name and the name was so eloquent that it was adopted to be the name for an eastern African country. There are some alternatives to the name like Kennya, and Kenia. I would prefer its original spelling.

Mekhi: is a predominantly male name. I like the way it's spelled, and it is very original. The name is edgy, and new. I would be a great addition to this years baby names. A little history on the name is that it was mainly used among Africa-American parents.

Nairobi: Nairobi is a popular name that means "Place name." This name is very melow when you say it. It is a fairly new name that I haven't heard yet. It comes from the Maasai phrase meaning "the place of cool waters." I wouldn't be surprised if your baby was calm, and quiet if you gave him this name

Sadee (Sade): Sadee is the cutest name for a baby girl. I would love to give this name to my child. Its new, elegant, and classy.

Tae (Taye): Tae would be a good name for a Male. The name means "he has been seen." In some references it means "dimpled-cheecked. It would also not be bad to name your child Tae just for the simple fact that Taye Diggs has made the name popular.

Zaire: I haven't heard the name Zaire being called out when my teachers take role. This name is new and different. It is a fun enticing baby name. If you like the base name, but you have a baby girl, try Zaira.

Ig: Ig sounds like it would be suited for a girl but its actually a male name. It means "flery and ardent." It sounds like it could be a punk rockers name that was born in Britain. The name could also have some alternatives like Ignatious, and Iggie.

Zola: Zola is a cute name. It means productive. This spirited African-American name has come a long way. Edie Murphy has also named his daughter Zola. Zoe would be another alternative if you want to name a boy.

I hope these names have inspired you! I wish you and your baby the best!

Aww, these are great names. Tae is my favorite. I love cool names, especially African American names but my BF (who is Black while I am white) ironically isn't a fan. I think he would be ok with these cool names, though.
