African-American Culture Celebration on Jan. 26 at North Carolina History Museum

I love the North Carolina History Museum and promoting events that they have. I am currently a volunteer at the North Carolina History Museum, so I know what great programs they put on. The next event at the North Carolina History Museum is having is the African-American Culture Celebration. This is a one-day, free event on Saturday, January 26, 2008 from 11am-2pm. The North Carolina History Museum is located on 5 E. Edenton Street. There are multiple parts to this event. There is music and dance, history and literature, exhibits, arts and crafts tradition, heritage and food. So there is something for all ages. This day will be full of family fun will be a day to remember.

Music and Dance will be located in the lobby level in the Auditorium. There will be a mixer of music such as R&B/Soul, jazz, and blues and in between there will be dance performances as well as storytellers.

History and Literature will be located in the purple room. Here you will learn about Black Businesses in Raleigh / Celeste's Harlem Renaissance, The Town of Princeville after the Flood, and Forgotten Roots: Muslims of the African American Diaspora, just to name a few. On the third floor you can take look at the 1920s drugstore.

Exhibit called Bearing Witness: Civil Rights Photographs of Alexander Rivera located on the third floor. On the lobby level there will be a photograph collection of jazz artist.

Arts and Crafts, there will be a multitude of activities and demonstrations. Demonstrations include dancing doll maker, basket maker, and carver. The activities include a quilting circle, Learn to play mancala and achi, and Wheel of History.

Celebrate Heritage, there will be plenty of organizations such as African American Cultural Complex, Bellamy Mansion Museum of History and Design Arts, Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum, Cultural Enrichment Services, W.E.B. DuBois Community Development Corporation.

Food will be located in the red room. This is for taste-testing purposes but there will be food vendor in front of the museum.
