Afshan Azad: Honor Killing Attempt on Harry Potter Actress

Julia Bodeeb
Afshan Azad, who resides in Manchester, England, is an actress who portrayed Padma Patil in 4 of the Harry Potter films. Her character is a witch and also occasionally dates Harry Potter in the films.

You would think her level of success and fame would keep her safe from an attempted honor killing. Alas, that was not the case. Afshan Azad was attacked in her home by family members.

Afshan Azad's Father & Brother Charged

Azad's father, Abdul Azad and her brother, Ashraf Azad have both been charged with threats to Afshan. Her brother Ashraf has also been charged with "assault occasioning actual bodily harm against his sister," reports the Telegraph.

Afshan must now deal now not only with any injuries she obtained in the fracas with her brother, but must try to heal emotionally after being attacked by someone she probably thought loved her. It must be very difficult to have to realize that people you trusted and loved have betrayed you.

A Despicable Tradition

How can any father or brother think they have a right to kill a daughter or sister due to her life choices? Honor killings are a despicable tradition that must be stopped. Too many girls and young women all over the world are being killed by family members because they chose a more modern life than the family would like.

Afshan Azad has a bright future in front of her. She is a talented and beautiful actress. Let's hope that her injuries were not severe and that she can continue on to the life she has dreamed of.

The Harry Potter films are so popular worldwide. Afshan surely has fans all over the world. Today, hearing of the news of the attack on Afshan, will be a sad day for anyone who admires her work.

Prayers to you Afsahn Azad as you move on in life.

Manchester has ongoing problems with so many Muslim immigrants. If they move to England they have to fit in and follow the laws of their new land. If they can't, it should be jail or deportation.

It is truly despicable, and should remind us all that religion, at is core, is fundamentally flawed. The men were acting according to what their faith states, just as the Christian faith says to do. We don't need a god to be good, but we do need one for our darkest evils...

Don't these fanatics realize that they are actually setting the cause of Islam BACK by acting in such a primitive manner? They are making their religion, and all sensible Muslims, look bad. I am so glad that she survived, and I hope she has a long and fruitful life, doing whatever she loves to do.
