After Arrest, Lawrence Taylor Admits to Sex with Teen Prostitute -- but Thought She was 19
Victim's Lying About Her Age Will Not Help Lawrence Taylor's Statutory Rape Case
But in the eyes of the law in New York, ignorance of an individual's age does not matter.
Taylor's admission that he had sex contradicts his public stance and statements made by both his lawyer, Arthur Aidala, and his wife, Lynette Taylor, who maintain that the former New York Giants all-star did not have sex with anyone and was "set up."
TMZ reported that court documents showed that the girl's black eye had been received prior to her being brought to Lawrence Taylor's room. Rasheed Davis, who was charged with assault, had allegedly beaten the 16-year-old when she initially refused to go to the hotel room. The victim also maintains that she never knew who her "john" was. The girl was dropped off at the Holiday Inn Suffern and instructed to have sex with the anonymous "john" (Lawrence Taylor), tell him she was 19, and charge him $300.
Lawrence Taylor was arrested Thursday morning when police in Ramapo, New York, were notified of a room number at the Holiday Inn by the N.Y.P.D. in a request that the man in the room be taken into custody. The arrest occurred without incident.
The N.Y.P.D. had been notified by the uncle of a 16-year-old Bronx runaway that he had received a text message from his niece. The message revealed that she was in the company of her pimp and where she was headed. Police went to the address and later arrested Rasheed Davis. It was during subsequent questioning that police learned that the 16-year-old had just returned from being pimped out to a man at a hotel about fifty miles outside New York City.
Lawrence Taylor was charged with third-degree rape (sex with a minor) and third-degree patronizing a prostitute. With Taylor's admission, the victim's statement, and with evidence gathered at the hotel (which reportedly included a used condom), it is likely the prostitution charge against Taylor will not disappear. Legally, however, Taylor, through his lawyer, is not admitting to having sex with a minor, possibly hoping to get the charge dismissed on a technical point of law. In short, he did not know the girl was only 16 years old.
The sister of the 16-year-old victim told the New York Daily News that her sister had no idea who her john was and that Lawrence Taylor thought that the girl he had paid for, a "skinny Spanish girl," was 19. The girl, given the name "Carmen" by Rasheed Davis, told her that if she told Taylor anything other than what she was instructed, "she would get a worse beating" than the one he had already administered.
"She said she had no choice but to go along with it," the sister, who wished to remain anonymous, said. "She doesn't blame Mr. Taylor because he had no idea."
But that lack of knowledge will not do Lawrence Taylor any good in court. Under New York state law, the age of consent for sexual relations is 17. His ignorance, the victim's forced lie -- nothing matters but the age of the victim. Taylor's ignorance is not a defense.

This young girl (our her counsel) sees an opportunity and is trying to capitalize on it. Why had she not informed her "uncle" about any former acts of prostitution? This was not her first time being forced by her pimp to have sex with others, so why all of a sudden are you "in trouble?" I sympathize with all parties (except the pimp), but this is a little ridiculous! It's obvious it's just because Taylor is somewhat of a celebrity. She probably was hoping for a settlement; but since she's young, she had no idea of how serious it would get. Oh, and BTW, I can't stand Nancy Grace and her judgmental arse! :-)
Lawrence Taylor may be guilty of being with a prostitute, but if little girls are going to play with grown men, then they have to accept the rules of the game. Why did it take her so long to alert someone about her situation, I'm sure Mr. Taylor would have helped her and called the police himself if she had stated she was there against her will. I will always be a fan and a true supporter of Lawerence Taylor. We all have something hiding in our closets, whether we admit it or not. When you get caught up, everybody wants to pass judgement. God is the only one that passes judgement. We should be concious of how we treat people, because it will come back to bite you in the butt. Keep your head up Lawerence and be true to yourself.
