After Graduation Day

Mary Thatcher
Today is the first day of your life

when you go out into the world

ready to conquer it

enthusiastic about your personal ambitions.

But you will meet people who will try to drag you down,

telling you that you are not interested in

nor want to become a doctor, lawyer, or artist.

Pay those people no heed.

Instead listen to your intuition

and the people closest to you who uplift

not only your ambitions

but also your heart and soul.

If necessary, reveal your ambitions only to those

you know you can trust

trust enough to never let you down.

Do not be afraid to travel the road

with your uplifter

even if it is only one person

who also shares your love and laughter.

Your first accomplishments

no matter how small they are

will allow you to think big, dream big,

immortalize your name in human civilization.
