After the Recession, What?

After the recession, what? Everything goes back to the way it was? This time I think not. Historically, you can call me liar, the eight major recessions since the great depression had little learning effect on the populace or the business community. We did slip back into all of our old bad habits and proceeded on to the next bubble and the subsequent bust. Make as much money as you can as the balloon expands but be sure to get out and cash in before you hear the popping sound. Inflated economies are ethereal and of little solid substance. When the air rushes out things go down fast.

This down turn is a major event and it will be protracted. Lot's of stuff is going to need to happen before we start growing again.

When the army of unemployed reach the three year mark everyone will be willing to reevaluate their position and worth in the economy. Many will be ready to take hands on manual jobs. Corporate America has successfully downsized and the millions of cubicle monkey's employed throughout the 90's and 00's will not be rehired. The citizenry should prepare itself to go back to work. We will do the grunt work but we will insist on our just rewards. Unionism and a represented workforce will once again emerge. The illegal migrant labor force will be forced from their jobs by the new citizen work force and they will return to their native lands. Stricter legislation will prevent big companies from exporting jobs without penalty. All businesses 'too big to fail' will be busted by new long overdue antitrust regulations. The automotive, alternative energy, financial and pharmaceutical industry's will be composed of many smaller companies. Health care and insurance providers will follow the model of collaborative, team working models. We will be healthier, doctors will return to the middle class but won't be burdened by impossible malpractice rates, office overhead or mounds of duplicitous paper work.

As people are better cared for, counseled and problems are addressed the nation sense of self worth will begin to improve. Alcoholism, drug use and destructive behavior will subside. Kids will feel safe in their homes and on the street. Schools will become welcoming places, no longer warehouses. Kids will want to work hard to be as happy as their parents and neighbors.

After a few years of small successes even politicians will learn to work together. Corruptors, charlatans, swindlers and liars will fill the prison spaces no longer occupied by sad junkies, petty criminals and gang bangers. Those lost souls will receive treatment and mentorship and will graduate from a national system of reformation and reconciliation back into a society that will welcome them and put them back to productive work.

People who believe in one God like the Christians, Muslims and Jews will go to one church and the once despised secular citizens will worship and work to fortify and enhance the natural world. Israeli youth will no longer enter the army, Mormons will not go on mission and spoiled suburban kids will not sit around playing electronic games and staring at their cell phones. An army of children will wander the earth doing good works. Older kids, interested parents and old folks will lead the bunch and every war torn country, refugee camp and squalid slum will be visited by a host of caring angels.

Or, we will backslide once again into the fetid swamp of the same old shit. You choose!
