In today's world, looking young seems to be an obsession for everyone. You can not run from the idea as it is everywhere you look. You can not turn on the TV without an ad for a beauty product, particularly age defying products.

But it seems every TV commercial, billboard, and ad is targeted toward women, as the products are manufactured for women's skin types, Ph balance, wants, and needs.

But what about men?

Men desire to look younger just as much as women, although they do not voice their concerns as much and whether men admit it or not, they put forth valiant effort into looking younger and better, and maintaining that youthful appearance.

It seems as time progresses, the desire to look younger increases. This could be due to a variety of reasons, but nevertheless it is of high concern and must be addressed.

In 2005, more than a million American men had skin treatment procedures, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. There was also a 44% increase in semi-invasive procedures on men, from 2000 to 2005. These numbers are staggering and it is overwhelmingly evident that looking young is gaining it's way to the top of the priority list, for men.

But what are the age defying options for men?

While a well balanced diet, exercise, and an ample amount of rest play an important role in looking and feeling young, men can also consider various non-surgical, age defying skin treatments.

A very popular treatment is microdermabrasion. This is a procedure where the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin are removed, layer by layer, by light abrasion. The procedure is not very painful and requires no anesthetic. This procedure is also used as a treatment for acne and scars. After the procedure is completed, you will be left with healthy, glowing looking skin, less lines and wrinkles. Skin renewal will increase, which is one of the things that decreases as we age. Microdermabrasion is not a one time treatment and should be done every few months to maintain the desired results.

Another treatment option is chemical peels. These topical products cause the surface skin to peel away, allowing the regeneration of new skin that is smoother and healthier. Chemical peels also induce production of collagen, making the skin firmer with improved texture and in turn you will see a reduction of surface lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and sun damage. Chemical Peels must also be re-administered to maintain results.

Another popular skin procedure is laser or light rejuvenation. This procedure exhilarates the face utilizing light-based devices such as non-cutting laser beams that emit pulsating energy to the skin. Light or laser skin rejuvenation also promotes the growth of collagen which is needed for firmer skin. This procedure may cause some redness or irritation, before desired results are seen. Many find this treatment reduces large pores, darks circles around the eyes, fine lines, and improves mild acne scars. This is also helpful for sun damaged skin, age spots, and broken capillaries. Depending on the condition and severity, a series of three to six treatments may be recommended for your desired outcome.

As I mentioned earlier, for a beauty conscience man, there is no substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise regimen. Healthy foods are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that our skin needs to renew quickly, build collagen, and refine pores, which is important to have a more youthful appearance and maintaining it, naturally. As well, a regular exercise regimen will build and maintain muscle tone and dexterity.

There are numerous ways for men to achieve the youthful appearance they desire, I hope this information has shed some light on some of the options.
