Age of Mythology is a real time strategy game brought to you by the creators of Age of Empires. It is set in ancient times with a twist- the gods you worship will actually step in and grant you mythical creatures, supernatural advancements and miracles.

There are three civilisations you can select from when playing: Greek, Egyptian and Norse. Each civilisation is different in the way it advances, which gods it can worship and how it gains recourses. This article will explain the basics of Egyptian culture.

Egyptians vary from Greek in that they are less dependant upon wood and more dependant upon gold and farming. They use villagers to gather recourses and to construct buildings. Egyptians have the ability to train mercenaries from their town centre using gold, but mercenaries are expensive and don't hang around very long so are only useful in defence. Egyptians earn favour by erecting monuments, which slowly accumulate favour over time. If Isis is selected as the primary god then these monuments will also protect the local area from hostile god powers. The Pharaoh is the main Egyptian hero, and there is usually only one at a time. The Pharaoh can increase the speed and efficiency of villagers by focusing on a drop point for recourses. Priests, trained at the temple, are also hero units and can build obelisks to help explore the map.

Egyptian Culture gives you the options of three primary gods to worship: Ra, Isis and Set. Each Primary God will grant your civilisation special abilities and access to different secondary Gods which you choose when you upgrade to the next age. Ra grants you the Rain power at the beginning of the game- this increases the productivity of farms around town centres all over the map, including those of your foes, for one minute. He also enhances your camel riders and chariots. Isis grants you the prosperity power, increasing the speed at which villagers mine gold for 50 seconds. She also allows your town centres to support an extra 3 population each and her monuments will protect you from enemy god powers. Set grants you the vision power, revealing a section of the map for 20 seconds. Set also permits your priests to empower recourse gathering and the Pharaoh to summon animals. The summoned animals may be used to scout, fight or as food.

One of the most satisfying aspects of playing as Egypt is being able to build a pyramid as a monument.
