Now, we live in an age several social eras away from the 19th century and we crave social contact. Is this where it ends, do we go in another direction or is the next step in reading the minds of others?
We are now moving toward an age of social understanding. We have established the age of social networking already. We are in constant contact. As with any other form of art, when humanity finds a new trend of self expression, it seeks to turn this trend into self improvement. Thanks to social media, we are able to collectively teach and learn each other's principles, life experiences and education. It is this Social Learning which will now be the forefront of world commerce.
This is more than simply taking free courses online. This is using social networking to do more than chat and give updates. Social Learning will become something that we all sit down and teach to each other, concerning our own life experiences and understandings and wisdom.
Our Media is being modified to facilitate learning through game incentives. When you join the professional networking community, LinkedIn, your profile must be completed and you must receive references and connections in order to have a fully complete profile. There is a bar showing your progress and what is needed to complete your profile. This is using game incentives. Rather than giving you the options and leaving you to it, it gives you a progress bar and performance updates so that you know where you are with respect to your past achievements and those of others.
The same thing occurs in games such as FarmVille. You are given a progress bar showing how far you have come and how far you need to go in order to achieve the next level. There are a variety of ways to score points and obtain progress points, and you are given creative license in which to do so.
The game incentives will be part of the next phase of Social Learning and Understanding. Perhaps, under these conditions, Level of and Quality of your Social Relationship would be judged by how many conversations you have had with this person and how long each conversation, or section of text, is.
These are only a few ideas with regard to social networking and the next stage of socio-economic development. What is ultimately created in the future ages will no doubt be slightly less social oriented and much more quality oriented. Whether relationships or knowledge is the next thing to be tested and given game incentives to complete, you can bet those geeks have something new and innovative on their minds.
