Age, is it Really Only a Number?

Erika Gilliam-Long
The age old saying is that age is only a number. Is it true? Is it only a myth? Does it depend on the people? How does it work for our relationship? Could the same work for you? Read on to see how it works for me and my partner!

Looking at me and my partner you would not typically think anything about it. You would never think that age was a factor in our relationship because she looks young, but she is thirty one! Yes we both know that this is a ten year age gap. Many people have asked us how we make it work with such a huge gap in age. We do not make it work because for us this is honestly no work at all. We do not typically notice the age thing. She is very young at heart and I am very mature for being only twenty one.

We both are on the same page as far as life goes. We both love kids, but neither of us are at a place in life for kids. We get to spend lots of time with my nieces and nephew, so not having kids right now is okay. We both know that all bills must be paid before anything fun can be done. In my past relationships as well as hers this has been an issue and I can honestly say that I am happy to have someone who sees eye to eye with me.

This is so far the most positive relationship I have ever been in. It is nice to have someone who has the same views in life and for me I will never be with someone who is younger than me or my age. I have found what I want and I am happy.

As of now we are trying to buy our first house so that we can stop renting and be happy homeowners. This was something that we have sat down and had a conversation about. For the last two years I have been longing to have a house to settle down in, and that is something that she agrees with. Our age does not seem to be a factor at all. We are happy and we both believe that the age gap works wonders for us and for others it may not. So that is my conclusion that age is depending upon the people and not the numbers. Yes, age is really only a number!
