Aged Seniors on a First Date Feel Ancient

Dating Has Changed Since Dating as a Teen. Going Out on a First Date as an Aged Senior is Not Easy

Teens can hardly wait to go on their first date. To them it seems like such a grown-up thing to do. They try a variety of hairstyles; new makeup tricks and find the perfect outfit to wear.Dating when you are so old you feel ancient is not like it was when younger. In those days woman's skirts were longer, makeup lighter, eye shadow put on sparingly; hair styles simple and hair coloring rarely used. Dating is different when dating at a much older senior age. Aging Seniors who are widows going on their first date feel ancient when they start to date again.

Dating at an older age could be nerve wracking especially on the first date. They have to recall the dating rules and at their old age things are not as it had been. Play it right; be polite and think of things to say before meeting. Have something prepared to talk about. A topic or a subject that might interest each of you. The date will end abruptly if there is nothing in common between you two who are dating at an older age.

Follow The Dating Rules

Have the date topic preplanned. This how to minimize the silence that might occur between a man and a woman on a first time date. This is particularly true when dating in your late seniors years.

Figure out where to go but make sure it is someplace that each can handle and enjoy. If either of you have back problems and standing too long causes pain, plan a sitting down kind of date depending on interests. The movies would be great and so would a live theater show. How about a visit to the planetarium - hey that's interesting at any age. Attend a forum on a topic you both enjoy. Make sure you do not take that walk on the beach.

Prepare a drink you can share when he picks you up at your home. Set out a plate of crackers or tea sandwiches, and get to know each other. Unwind! Dating at an older age can make one nervous especially if this a first date after the death of a spouse.

Do not dress younger than your age. There is nothing wrong with dressing like you are 80 if that is your age. If you are more comfortable in pants than a skirt because you do not like to show your varicose veins then wear it. Those that have flabby arms and feel embarrassed because they shake, wear a long sleeve blouse or sweater and do not mention it to your first time date. Explanations are not necessary.

Do not get embarrassed If you have to take your medicine at a specific time and are eating. Do one of two things; (1)excuse yourself and go to the ladies room to take your pills or (2) place the pills on the palm of your hand, pick up the glass of water and take them without mentioning it. He might be glad to see you do this since he too might have to take a pill.

Dating at a much old age is no different from when dating as a teen. The guy expects a good-night kiss at the door after he takes you home.

The older the senior the more scary a first date. Most have been married for over fifty years. Dating is different from when they were young. It takes a while to get used to dating, and some older seniors would rather stay home with past memories.

Hope you had a good Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras if you celebrate! If not, hope you had a happy Tuesday and are having a good Wednesday!

HI Sondra, you can contact the Help Desk. I know that the last few days there have been many glitches. Yesterday I could not stay signed in hardly at all.

You have some good points, but I'm 53 and if I started dating again, I believe I would never act as I did when I was younger (trying to impress and being someone I wasn't in hopes of see the person again). Older and wiser, as they say..meaning I would just be myself, plus time gets to be a precious thing when you are older. I would treat this person as a perspective friend and then see if anything develops from that.

First dates aren't easy at any age. That's why I'm glad to be happily married; I hope to stay that way for a long time.
