Aging Skin and What You Can Do About It

Regina Paul
Western society worships youth and beauty, and so the idea of getting older and of our skin aging can be a scary thing. Even though it is not realistic, we want to be young and beautiful forever. However, aging skin doesn't have to be a scary thing. While we all have to live with the fact that our skin is going to age, there are things we can do to delay the process.

Some signs of the aging process beginning and which may be precursors to aging skin are baldness, forgetfulness, graying hair, wrinkle formation, loss of hearing or eyesight, and menopause to name a few. If you have begun noticing even one of these, it may be time to consider starting an anti aging skin care regime. One thing to keep in mind is that if you have always practiced good skin care then you have already begun your anti aging skin care regime because it is through consistent good skin care throughout your life that will help to delay the effects of aging skin longer.

Also if you have made a habit of eating a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water and exercising regularly for most of your life, these too can help to delay skin aging. Because aging skin can creep up on you without your really being aware because it can be so gradual it is a good idea to take note of the signs of aging so you can keep an eye on your skin.

You may not realize it but maintaining health skin can actually increase your resistance to disease. So this is an additional reason for taking good care of your skin and doing what you can to delay the effects of aging which may decrease your resistance if not taken care of.

The main thing here is to not necessarily adopt any particular skin care routine, but to be vigilant about noticing the signs of aging, and to change your skin care routine if the one you have been using doesn't seem to be adequate. For example, you've always had oily skin and so your skin care routine reflected helping with that, but your skin has suddenly become dryer and your old routine is exacerbating your current skin problems. In that case you may want to change your routine to one that provides more moisture.

While you may consider using skin care products that claim to have anti aging effects, a good skin care routine that addresses whatever issues your skin has is far better than going out and spending money on expensive creams that claim to cure wrinkles for example. Not that some of these products don't help in maintaining healthy skin, but just be aware that it isn't necessary to spend a lot of money on products to have healthy skin and combat aging. There are many natural products that cost very little that can help to maintain your skin, witch hazel is just one of them.

The most important thing to remember is that you can only delay aging not stop it. Having a good skin care routine that address your skin's issues, and living a healthy lifestyle is the best way to take care of you skin and combat the signs of aging.
