AGT 2010: The Final Four Compete for One Million Dollars Live

Tonight was the last night of live competition for America's Got Talent 2010. The final four acts are: Michael Grimm, Fighting Gravity, Prince Poppycock and Jackie Evancho. Three singers and a variety act.

Though it may seem extremely slanted toward singers, these three could not be more different. Prince Poppycock is the king of camp, with a great voice for opera. Michael Grimm is the down and out singer (a la Kevin Skinner the chicken farmer and winner of last season of AGT). Then there is Jackie Evancho, a ten year old opera prodigy. I'm not sure America knows what to do with a talent like Jackie's.

Tonight kicked off with Prince Poppycock, in full regale, but this time something was different. Poppycock took off his amazingly tall headdress at the bottom of the stage, and I expected something magical. It was boring. It was so boring, in fact, that Pier Morgan used his buzzer... an AGT finale night first.

To a drone of boos, Piers Morgan tried to explain his thinking. He said he is looking for a million dollar act. Twitter nearly exploded with slams on Morgan. I think he was right, and if the rules state you can still buzz an act, then buzz away. Prince Poppycock took the criticism like a pro saying, "I was giving them a fairytale ending... emphasis on fairy!"

There was a break from opera when Michael Grimm took the stage for his AGT finale performance. Tonight he sang "When a Man Loves a Woman", a good song choice for his bluesy voice. This was by far Grimm's best performance on America's Got Talent.

Sharon Osbourne commented that Ozzy had bet $100 that Michael Grimm would win, and she thought his performance tonight sealed the deal. I like Michael Grimm's voice, but there is something about him that I don't care for. He seems to have a very down, sad look about him all the time. I have to wonder if this is not what has held him back from getting recognition before this talent show.

Young phenom Jackie Evancho took her place on finals night, center stage where she looks quite comfortable. While I'm not a fan of children heading to Las Vegas for a show... Jackie Evancho is different. She has a true gift. Not just a talent, but a voice that can stop traffic. Every eye is on her during even the slowest of songs. Tonight Jackie sang "Ava Maria" with the grace and confidence of a seasoned veteran. Piers Morgan commented that Ozzy Osbourne had just lost his $100 bet.

There was a pause in the final four competition as some of the variety acts from the season took the stage. It could have been lame. Instead, it was really fun to watch. The acts were: Harmonica Pierre, Michael Grasso, Anna & Patryk, Studio One Young Beast Society and Micahel Lipari & Ashleigh Dejon.

Finally Fighting Gravity came out to end the AGT final four show with a bang. They really put together a whole new act. It looked a little borrowed from the Blue Man Group to me, but I enjoyed it for the most part. There were definitely some technical glitches, especially at the end. This would be a great act to see in Vegas, with permanent props and more than a week to rehearse.

I find myself agreeing with Piers Morgan as far as the talent goes on this season finale. Jackie Evancho is the act with the truest talent. If it were called "America's Got Entertaining Acts", I would say Prince Poppycock or Fighting Gravity should win. Michael Grimm would not be my choice for either.

It doesn't matter what I think, it's now a complete popularity contest that any one of these final four acts can win. All four have huge followings. All four deserve to be recognized. I think it may come down like this:

4th: Michael Grimm
3rd: Prince Poppycock
2nd: Jackie Evancho
1st: Fighting Gravity
