AGT 2010: Jackie Evancho and Fighting Gravity to the Final Four

Jeremy Vanschoonhoven Gets Left Out

It was an interesting results show on America's Got Talent tonight. I knew it would be. With the stacked talent last night and only four spots to fill, at least two of my favorites would be left out of the finals. It's a great final four, but not quite what I expected.

The AGT 2010 final four is made up of three singers, a bit surprising if you watch Twitter during the show. The same people crying for fewer singers must not be voting. Though the three are all singers, it's still a pretty eclectic group.

The first two acts Nick Cannon called out were Michael Grasso and Prince Poppycock. I was a little surprised to see them up against each other so soon. Michael Grasso's trick last night was impressive, and he has had three kidney transplants (they remind us each time he takes the stage). Prince Poppycock has been killing us with camp since the auditions, but last night he was a little overboard for me. The stronger of the two acts prevailed, Prince Poppycock is in the AGT final four.

After a filler act from "American Idiot", Nick Cannon called Michael Grimm and Taylor Matthews to the stage. Michael Grimm has been the favorite singer since the early auditions, with Matthews taking the "nice guy" votes. I was hoping both would be left out of the finals. No such luck, Michael Grimm was pronounced safe and in the final four.

Sarah McLachlan came on to perform her single "Forgiveness". It was good, as always...and note to pop singers: Again, this is real singing. No tracking vocals or auto-tune.

I had all but forgotten Jeremy Vanschoonhoven in all the glitz and glamour of the AGT results show. Nick Cannon called out Jeremy and sisters Christina & Ali, and I was happy... for only a moment. For some strange reason Jeremy Vanschoonhoven did not get the votes needed to advance to the final four. In fact, neither of these acts will be going further. Jeremy was the only act left that actually had real danger. Hopefully we'll see him in Vegas anyway.

Next up were a defeated looking Anna & Patryk against Jackie Evancho. Ouch. Patryk looked absolutely sick to be standing next to Evancho. It was the most non-dramatic result of the night as Jackie Evancho was announced the third member of the AGT final four.

Sadly, the last group held Studio One Young Beast Society and Fighting Gravity. My head knew Fighting Gravity would move on, my heart hurt for S1YBS. I was not happy Michael Grimm was in the final four at this point. Just as expected, Fighting Gravity was voted threw to the final round on AGT 2010. Rightfully so, the VA Tech boys do have a great act.

Next week Prince Poppycock, Michael Grimm, Jackie Evancho and Fighting Gravity will perform live for America's votes. The winner gets one million dollars and a headline show in Las Vegas.

I think it should come down to Prince Poppycock and Jackie Evancho. I know kids should not be performing in Las Vegas, but if you vote on pure talent the winner has to be Jackie Evancho. Her voice was put here to be heard, and it will be I'm sure.

No doubt all four of the final AGT contestants will do quite well for themselves from here. Michael Grimm will surely get a record deal. Prince Poppycock will have to beat the offers off with a club (a sparkly club!). The boys in Fighting Gravity will tour and become legendary. Jackie Evancho is something special. I think she needs to be crowned the winner of AGT 2010.

Catch the live final four performances next Tuesday on NBC at 9/8c and catch up on anything you've missed on my blog: TV Review.
