AGT 2010: Third Week of Live Quarter Finals

Haspop, Jeremy VanSchoonhoven and Studio One Young Beast Society All Standout

The exceptional acts tonight on America's Got Talent were scattered throughout the two hour episode. Piers Morgan warned that he had his hand on his buzzer after looking over the lineup for tonight's live show. He did use it occasionally tonight, and one act got all three judges pushing their respective buzzers on his strip tease.

AGT was definitely full of mediocrity tonight. From the first act, a so-so dance group, to the afore mentioned comic strip tease, it was clearly going to be a long night. Thankfully we did see a few keepers in the mix.

Young CJ Dippa took over the stage like any good rapper: pants hung low, bling hangin', girls dancin'. Good thing the 11 year old can back up his big attitude with rhymes he wrote himself. CJ Dippa's rhymes are still slightly candy and fluff, but he's 11 and he writes what he's living. He can dance too. I'm sure we have not seen the last of CJ Dippa.

If we are talking about individual dancers, Haspop is getting my vote this season. This guy can pop and lock and hit like only one person I've seen. He reminds me of Robert Muraine of So You Think You Can Dance fame (seen here). I still put Muraine at the top, but would love to see he and Haspop in a dance off. What these guys do looks impossible, and it's mesmerizing to watch.

Between decent acts fell Chipps Cooney's, um, comedy. At least Howie Mandel swears it's comedy. First Cooney played a really bad magician in the early auditions and Mandel loved it. It was not funny, and Piers voiced that loudly. Tonight Chipps Cooney decided to throw caution and his clothing to the wind, literally. By the time Howie Mandel hit his button (the third judge to do so, stopping the act), we were already privy to far too much information about Chipps Cooney. He even had duct taped pasties. Pass the soap for my eyes. Either Last Comic Standing took all the good comedians this year, or Howie Mandel is picking really poor acts on purpose. Hey, I bet that's Howie's act, he picks really bad comedy acts... see that's what's funny. I still don't get it Howie.

Jeremy VanSchooner is the daredevil of the night. He took his extreme bike tricks to a whole new level. Wearing a blindfold at one point, he jumped across high bars on his bike. People may not know how good this kid is, but I think he could have a huge act in Vegas. He certainly stepped it up tonight.

The final act tonight on AGT closed the show with a bang. The dance crew of Studio One Young Beast Society knows how to hip hop and perform for a large audience. They are a large group which really helps with the major tricks, like the stair step handstand. There is no doubt that this dance crew could headline a show in Vegas.

The four acts mentioned are the ones I think are worthy of votes from tonight's AGT performances. The voters have been doing a great job of weeding out the best acts this season so far, I hope it continues.

Tomorrow night dance crew Jabberwockey and singer Mike Posner take the stage in Hollywood to perform live. The results for the third group of semi finalists will also be revealed. Read all of the judges comments for tonight's AGT performances here.
