Agua de Tamarindo is a sweet and tangy drink that is made from the Mexican fruit called Tamarindo. Tamarindo is a chewy and sour fruit to eat, but in Mexico it's used to make fruit drinks and other things I'm still not aware of. Agua de Tamarindo is sold on about every street corner in Mexico from street vendors, the vendors usually have a clean cart and big glass jars where the Agua de Tamarindo is stored with big blocks of ice. But, its also sold in Texas and other parts of the United States, and one of my favorite places to buy my Agua de Tamarindo is in a restaurant in Winnie, Texas called Burrito Express and I have also wrote an article about this place. The price for Agua de Tamarindo at this place is usually three dollars per medium cup, and I have heard rumors that Burrito Express makes their Agua de Tamarindo very fresh from scratch.
Agua de Tamarindo has a few ingredients, but there may be others. And, one of the main ingredients is Tamarindo fruit which is boiled to extract the natural juices to make Agua de Tamarindo. Then the extracted cooked juice with plenty of sugar added is then mixed in with a jar full of cold water. Then blocks of ice are added to make the drink cold. There maybe other ingredients that are added in this process of making Agua de Tamarindo, but they are probably kept secret from the public for envy of other businesses that sell Agua de Tamarindo.
So if you are planning a vacation to Mexico or plan to stop in Winnie, Texas at Burrito Express, just remember to buy some Agua de Tamarindo. This drink will be enjoyed by small children as well as adults. I would recommend serving this drink at birthday parties or at Christmas parties to get everybody full of sugar and ready to have a lot of conversations.
