Agyness Deyn: Supermodel

E. Lynn
For most girls the dream of becoming an international supermodel will remain a dream, but for Agyness Deyn the dream has finally become a reality. Deyn was born in a little town called Littleborough in Greater Manchester, England on February 16th, 1983. In 1999, at the age of 16, she won the Rossendale Free Press "Fresh Face of '99" contest. Though her beauty was undeniable, Agyness Deyn decided to stay and work in a town called Stubbins at a fish and chip shop.

While working, Agyness met fashion genius Henry Holland of House of Holland, which has been noted for putting their rhyming catch phrases involving both fashion designers and models on shirts. Agyness Deyn has since become the face of House of Holland and even has her own shirt, inscribed "Flick yer bean for Agyness Deyn." (I supposed subtlety isn't something to expect from fashion)

Deyn has become one of those unforgettable faces in the last year or so, and self-proclaimed Queen of all Media, Perez Hilton has predicted that 2008 will be the year that Agyness Deyn's name becomes as famous as Kate Moss. Some tote Deyn as the biggest thing to happen to fashion since Mod supermodel Twiggy stepped on the scene in the 1960's.

Agyness Deyn has been booked for jobs from some of the hottest names in fashion; Mulberry, Armani, Burberry, Cacherel, and Blugirl have all had her in their campaigns. She debuted on the runway in New York in 2006, walking for Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen and Proenza Schouler. Her schedule has been booked solid since then.

In 2007 at the British fashion awards, Deyn walked away with the coveted title, "Model of the Year." It was a foreshadowing of things to come with her appearing on the cover of Time Magazine's fashion and design edition.

Deyn sees herself as a good girl, denying links between her behavior and that of Kate Moss, who was videotaped snorting cocaine. The only controversy in Deyn's life is that surrounding her true age. Agyness has listed herself as born in 1986, which would make her fall three years short of her true age. Even her mother has been questioned about her true date of birth, but her mother - like any good mother - kindly declined to answer any questions.

So will Perez Hilton's prediction come true in 2008? Will Agyness Deyn become the hottest supermodel on the planet? Looking at her work so far in the year 2008, one can only assume he will be right and soon everyone will know who Agyness Deyn is.

I agree with Kathy...after seeing this show (my daughter watches it all the time) I am amazed at all the pressure they are put under. I give them a lot of credit and good luck to her!

After watching Tyra Bank's, America's Next Top Model, I don't think I could deal with the pressures these girls are under. While it may look like a glamorous job, modeling is hard work! All the best to Agyness Deyn!
