Before you begin your AC installation, and even before purchasing the air conditioner, you first have to measure the total area that you want to cool and then measure the window opening of the room you have chosen. The window frames should be firm so replace any worn out frames. This will help you in choosing the size of the air conditioner that you are going to buy, because the air conditioner will need to fit in the window opening. Also make sure there is an electric outlet nearby to juice up the air conditioner. Once completed, go out and buy the air conditioner.
With that out of the way, we now embark on our air conditioner installation.
First, install the mounting brackets that came with the air conditioner unit. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the air conditioner installation carefully because the mounting bracket is the primary source of support for the air conditioner. Adjust the brackets if necessary until it is level, you can use a level for accuracy. This is done so as to make sure the air conditioner does not fall out of the window.
Now carefully place the air conditioner into the window opening and onto the mounting bracket. Make sure you follow the manufactures instructions as you do this. The air conditioner unit will usually have some grooves on the side which will guide you as you place it onto the mounting bracket and once in position close the window onto the top of the air conditioner unit.
Pull the side extensions of the air conditioner from both sides of the unit. You should then extend and attach them to the window frame and securely screw them into place. Use the foam strip which mostly comes with the air conditioner to seal the gap between the top of the air conditioner and the window.
Go round to the outside and apply waterproof caulking to the outer edges of your air conditioner, sealing the spaces where the air conditioner installation and the extensions meet the frame of the window. Remember to attach the draining hose if your unit came with one. Once completed, plug in your air conditioner to the power supply, turn it on and say goodbye to the summer heat.
