Air Force Football Ends Armed Forces Bowl Losing Streak

Cougar's Defense Unable to Stop Air Force's Attack

Air Force Football scores their first Armed Forces Bowl victory, where they soundly thumped the Houston Cougars 47-20. The Air Force Falcons have now played in 3 out of 7 Armed Forces Bowls. This year showcased a rematch between the teams, the Cougars having won 34-28 at last year's Bowl.

The Air Force has the No. 1 pass defense in the nation and their ground game dominated. They steamrolled and swerved around Houston, rushing 402 yards. Falcon's running back Asher Clark rushed 129 yards and scored two touchdowns, on his way to being named the teams Most Valuable Player.

Running back Jared Tew also had two touchdowns, grinding out 173 yards.

Cougars' quarterback Case Keenum tossed six interceptions, finished 24 of 41 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown.

The Armed Forces Bowl opened with the Air Force striking first, never relinquishing their lead throughout the game. Clark went 36-yards for the first touchdown, ending a 6-play 69-yard run.

The Cougars' first drive was less successful, as Keenum's pass hit off the leg of wide receiver James Cleveland. The interception was made by Anthony Wright.

Air Force football quarterback Tim Jefferson began a six-play drive, that ended with a touchdown by Tews. The first quarter of the Armed Forces Bowl ended with a 14-0 score.

The Cougars finally scored in the second quarter, with a 33-yard field goal by Matt Hogan.

The Air Force responded with an 11-play, 80-yard drive led by Jefferson, culminating in a 22-yard touchdown run by Clark.

Keenum found his game for a moment, completing five of six passes for 60 yards. Hogan scored a 33-yard field goal.

Air Force football responded with a bowl game first, a kickoff return touchdown. This happened when Jonathan Warzeka got the ball and ran for 100 yards.

Keenum was able to throw a 10-yard touchdown to Patrick Edwards, ending Houston's' scoring for the match. This left the score at 31-20, in favor of the Falcons.

Erik Soderberg scored the final points of the Armed Forces Bowl, a 27-yard field goal. This happened after Jefferson slipped on a third-and-goal.
