Hydrocarbons come from gasoline-powered vehicles, equipment and from industrial processes. When fuel in the engine burns partially it cause hydrocarbons. This can cause ground level ozone as well. One of the things that cause smog is ground level ozone. This can cause irritated eyes, and breathing problems.
Carbon monoxide is a pollutant that cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted and is very dangerous (Wiley, 2009). When blood combines with carbon monoxide it cause the body to carry less oxygen to body causing health problems. Exhaust fumes can leak into cars and cause health problems. Carbon monoxide gas has caused many deaths in America (EPA, 2008). Sulfur oxides come different industrial process, and when coals are burned. The oxide can affect the breathing of people and animals, and cause problems for plants as well.
Particulate matter is a pollution that can come from solid and liquid aerosols that get in the air. That can also be created coal that is burnt. This can cause form of erosion on materials and cause corrosion of some metals. This can put toxins into the body that will hurt the human respiratory system (Sunyer, 2001). These toxins can cause lung infections and lung disease.
Air pollution is a world- wide ecological problem that produces toxins in the air. Air pollution causes health and ecological problems all over the world. This problem is causing the earth to get hotter, and people are becoming ill everywhere. As we breathe, we are breathing in toxic pollutants (Sunyer, 2001). These gases and particles are dangerous substances found in the air. These gases and particles can be in our homes, business as well outside. Air pollution causes many caners and other infections in the lungs and the body (Sunyer, 2001). Air pollution causes the ozone layer to dissipate and this result in global warming (Wiley, 2009). Years ago there were not industries, and the atmosphere was good, but the burning of coal for fuel started the pollution in the air. Now that the need for fossil fuels has increased today it has caused pollution to get worse. A hole in the ozone has begun to develop and is getting larger as the years go by.
As the air pollution continues it will eventually cause severe damage to the ozone layer. This will cause ultra violet rays enter into the Earth protective layer that will start causing sever skin cancers, global warming, and the earth will begin heating up as the ultra violet rays pierce through. The ozone layer is a protective layer over our planet (EPA, 2008). This protective layer helps shield us from UV rays that are very harmful and can cause severe skin cancer. In 1987 they started a restriction on releasing man made pollution (EPA, 2008). This restriction was hoped to help reduce pollutants to help the ozone from getting worse. These pollutants cause smog when they mix together. When nitrogen oxide and volatile organics mix it forms ozone. In the summer many people are exposed to this ozone at a very high- level. The generation of fossil fuels and transportation causes nitrogen oxide. Fuels and solvents cause volatile organic compounds. A natural source of volatile organic compounds is vegetation. Ozone is only affected in some areas and many of the larger cities deal with particulate matter. Particulate matter can cause severe health problems in humans. Particulates and ozone together has caused several health problems (Sunyer, 2001).
The main living contributors causing the problem are the humans using the forest for different industries, and the increasing population. The more the people reproduce and population increases the more pollution is created. The different types of transportation whether it is by air, land, or water all have a hand in creating pollution as the fumes they put off from running on gas creates an exhaust (Elsevier, 2001). Exhaust fumes is a big air pollution problem. The less people use transportation that require gas the less pollution that would be produced, but getting people to transfer over to electric, orsolar panel transportation, orbike riding is going to be a difficult task.
Ozone depletion is caused by burning plastics, vehicle exhaust, and using aerosols. If we could eliminate some of these things we might be able to reduce pollution. People tend to think that they only one person and he or she wouldnot make much of a difference in the world, but one person truly would make a difference. The more people who get involved in finding ways to eliminate pollution the better chances we all have for existence. Human impacts on forests can have a positive side. The ecosystem can be greatly affected leading to climate changes due to an increase in the atmospheric CO2 concentration (EPA, 2008).
There are many sustainability strategies and solutions produced by government, and organizations, firms, and civic groups. If the government made it mandatory to have either solar, wind, or hydro power to run all homes instead of the traditional power companies this would help. If we used electric cars, solar powered, or cars run off of biomass this would greatly reduce pollution (Wiley, 2009). If we do not do something soon it will eventually start a chain reaction of species dying and eventually humans as well.
There are many ways that we can get rid of exhaust from cars (Elsiever, 2001). People are inventing cars that run on batteries, solar power, biomass, andmore. Many of these cars are in the test stages and not for sale, but some people have built their own battery power vehicles, anduse them.
The Clean Air Acts is another way people are coming together to stop pollution. The Clean Air Act was place in effect to eliminate people using polluting products. If people would follow the act it might have been more effective. People started using solar energy to help pollution, but the cost of it has kept many people from being able to afford it. Using the suns energy is an exceptionalway of creating energy, but it can be costly. The government should make it mandatory and affordable to have solar energy on homes this would help.
Another way of eliminating air pollution is by producing electric vehicles and solar vehicles as well as vehicles that run off biomass. Having these kinds of vehicles cars would help reduce the amount of pollution.
If we had more electric, solar and biomass run vehicles we would eliminate a major part of the pollution in the world. If major changes to our way of life are not made soon the earth will continue to heat up causing global warming. When the earth heats up enough it could melt the ice caps causing severe flooding on the earth.
Our ecosystem is like the human body, and needs all its organs to maintain its life. As the air is polluted it pollutes the rest of the earth causes problems in the organs creating an imbalancein the system.
Before initiation of the plan, prospective good leaders that can help on the program should be appointed and as needed required permission from the local government has to be sought. Funding to start with the program needs to be planned ahead.
Present a brief report by scheduling a presentation inviting the community members as the audience. By doing research on the various pollutions causing the problems it will give us a better understanding of what must be done so we can correct it before it is too late.
Overpopulation is a big problem in pollution. The more people driving and so on the more pollution being made. We must educate as many people we can on pollution and ways to prevent it before it is too late. The more the public is educated the more chances that people will listen and take a part in saving our environment. The news papers television is a way to get the public, and governments attention on air pollution.
Every member of the community must be aware of every little contribution they can do. People could minimizing the use of disposable paper products, recycling, efficient use of firewood, using products sparingly from forest, and many more.
Corporations and plant operators need to take part in cutting down air pollution. These companies should regulate their equipment and convert to biomass instead of gas to run their equipment this would help with air pollution to.
The government needs to regulate the corporations and plants to make sure they are complying with the standers of cutting down on air pollution. If these plants and corporations do not comply they should have a hefty fine placed on them to get their attention as to how important cleaning up our air is. These fines will ensures the coronations and plants will follow the laws on eliminating pollution in the air. These companies have been getting away with pollution for too long and they are jeopardizing the health of every American in the world as well as our plants ecosystem. Action needs to be taken before it is too late.
The efforts of every citizen are needed to put a stop to air pollution. If just one person makes an effort then another and another before someone knows it the chain has started. This effect is what I like to call the ripple effect. One small stone in a large lake causes a small wave andeventually several waves occur spreading across the whole lake. This how one person can make a difference in air pollution in our world?
