Airtran Has Set a New Standard for Air Travel

Being a native of Atlanta I remember when Delta airlines was one of the only airlines that came to mind when it came to air travel. For years, this was uncommon considering the fact that Delta has a major hub in Atlanta. Because of numerous safety issues, ValuJet merged with Air Ways Corporation in 1997. It became what we know today as AirTran airlines. Since then AirTran has been a very successful low cost airline carrier. I believe that it has set a new trend for the airline industry.

The low cost airline industry, which was once dominated by the Dallas, TX, based Southwest airlines. Airtran was able to penetrate the market because it not only flew to destinations throughout the Southeast but also the Southwest as well. I have had the opportunity to fly on Airtran for the past four years now. Within these four years, I have not flown any other airline. I have been more than pleased with the service that I receive when flying on Airtran which might I say is less than stellar! I guess it is safe to say that I have been spoiled by the web specials that Airtran offers that are not available when you call to make reservations. If you are an A plus reward member, which is also known as a frequent flyer there are many perks available. I remember one time in particular when I purchased a ticket 2 months in advance. The price of the ticket dropped. When I called Airtran to tell them about the decrease in ticket price they immediately credited the difference of the ticket purchase to my account. I believe that Airtran has set a higher standard for the airline industry. This morning on September 27, 2010 according to CNN Money Southwest Airlines announced its plans to acquire Airtran for 1.4 billion dollars. The deal will be finalized once it is approved by stockholders. Airtran's desire to be different, hard work and dedication to its customers has finally paid off. This latest acquisitions will definitely create more opportunities for both airlines.
