Ashwarya Krishnaraj rai was born in the south indian state of Karnataka in Manglore on November 1, 1973. She is the younger of two siblings. When she was around four years old her family made a permanent move to Bombay. Where she also at a young age started up her modeling career. Her father worked as a Merchant Navy officer. Ashwarya attended school at Arya Vidya Mandir, Santacruz. She was extrememly good at school and earned the position of being the top student in her class. Ashwarya chose science as her major while DG Ruparel College, her favorite subject being Zoology. She also wanted to do Medicine but circumstances did not permit her to so she went ahead and chose Architecture and passed the interview with flying colors at Raheja College.By this time the green-blue-eyed beauty which also became her trademark in the industry had appeared in many prestigious advertisement firms. The two that made her a household name was the Pepsi ad and the garden sari.

Being crowned Miss India 1994 runner up, she had become a favorite for a run in the Miss World title, which she won. After this she stormed into bollywood captivating her audience by her debut in the Indian Movie Iruvar(1997), and many after that.
