AK Press Lists Its Upcoming Titles

Readers with a Leftist Bent Have a Lot to Celebrate

AK Press, renowned anarchist publisher for over 15 years, has recently announced its upcoming publication list for the next few months. This list went out with the February 2010 Friends of AK Press shipment and shows that political junkies have a lot to look forward to. (The Friends of AK Press program requires a small donation each month and then Friends receive one of every book, DVD and CD that AK Press puts out as well as a percentage off all items in its catalog for as long as you are a Friend. Anyone can order from the catalog or website - the Friends program just gives you benefits.)

Some of the upcoming titles include Academic Repression (which details the struggles that academic freedom and critical thinking have undergone in today's university settings), We Are an Image From the Future: The Greek Revolt of December 2008, and Sparking a Worldwide Energy Revolution by Kolya Abramsky.

For those interested in anarchist history, AK Press is serving up several new titles that will maintain the high quality of AK Press' past books on the subject. Anarchism and Its Aspirations, Anarchism and the City, and Carlo Tresca: Portrait of a Rebel are just three of the titles.

Carlo Tresca: Portrait of a Rebel may be one of the more anticipated books on the docket. Not much has been written about the Italian anarchist who was assassinated, but come April many readers will get to read his life story thanks to author Nunzio Pernicone's book. Pernicone, it should be noted, is a professor of history at Drexel University and previously wrote Italian Anarchism 1864-1892, also published by AK Press.

Equally important is Jeff Conant's A Poetics of Resistance: The Revolutionary Public Relations of the Zapatista Insurgency, which is due out in May. The title may be a mouthful, but the examination of how the Zapatista movement utilizes images and language to get its message across is going to be of interest to political activists the world over no matter what side they subscribe to.

AK Press has a full publishing schedule for the first part of the year, and if history is any indication, the second half of the year will be much the same way. Your summer reading list just got a little larger.
