Akin's Natural Food Market is a large store with lots of inventory from organic produce, alternative health care supplements, Alternative Medicine books, small gift items and natural food items. There is also a snack counter and tables in the South corner.

The staff wear green aprons so you know who is an employee. Akin's provides training and certification for National Product Specialist to its employees. The certification uses Bastyr University program and trains employees to make recommendations of alternative health remedies.

All of Akin's Natural Food Market stores are corporate managed with the corporation ordering products for each store. There is an upside to this and a downside which is important for a natural food store.

The downside is customers don't feel the personal touch because a product you use may not be re-ordered no matter how many times you tell management its important to you. The alternative is to use Akin's on-line store which may or may not have the product. You can also try to special-order which each Akin's location tries to fulfill but finds overwhelming. A good way around it is to special-order by the case which isn't always the best option.

The upside is that Akin's Corporate has a board that continuously reviews every product to make sure it meets the highest alternative and organic standards. I know of products Akin's carried for years that changed some of their ingredients. These new ingredients were no longer organic and Akin's pulled the product from their shelves and no longer carried them. This is a great safety feature for customers.

Akin's Natural Food Market is a great Oklahoma City business presence in the North side of town. A second, smaller location is about five miles North of the 63rd health foods store. Employees will call the second store to see if a product is in their inventory which is helpful.

Phyllis and Mary in the supplements section have been with Akin's Natural Food Market for many years. They are knowledgeable about many conditions.
